I just picked up a 25-06 Remington 700 Mountain DM.

22" barrel....

Anyone have one that they hunt deer with? If so what factory ammunition do you use.

Cxp3 use?

I've waited a long time for this rifle... Finally!

I have a Leupold LPS 30mm scope that's going on it. Shocked

Gday fatty

Welcome to this secret site - Drag a log and sit nearby. And help yourself to Vince's beer.

25-06 are great caliber.. I never got one (too loud and heavy recoil Very Happy )but some of my mates did.
They mostly use own reloads for them.
Round here we mostly use 243Win instead of the 25-06

Just hang around and somebody here would pipe up soon - being a favourite caliber for some.

Welcome .
That gun and caliber should make a good deer set .A good choice could be Nosler Partition 120 grains. Try several different types and see what your eats best .

I used one for big varmints 75g sierra w 52g of w760 in remington cases. I loved the 100g game king and the 120 smk's worked well for me too although they aren't advertised as deer bullets. The only factory ammo I ever used was fed prem with the sierra's on top( I'm kind of a Sierra fan).

I have been using a .25-06 for about 25 years reloaded with Hornady bullets. I've used 120 gr HP for Deer and now use 117 gr BTSP Hornady. I load mine with IMR 7828. It has brought down many a Mule Deer and Whitetail. It's an excellent Deer rifle. Oh by the way, mine is also a Remington 700, only it's a BDL. 24" bbl

Welcome Fatty....as Gelan said...beer is over there in the cooler mate.

Prior to buying my .243, I actually considered a .25 calibre...either a 303.25 or the 25.06...but the .243 won out.

I don't think you can go too far wrong with the 25.06...there is a goodly range of boolits for it and the ballistics are pretty good too. I would seriously consider getting into reloading too mate....cheaper, more accuracy not to mention its a lot of fun and very satisfying.

Enjoy your rifle mate.

Cheers, Vince

Aaahem aaaaaaaaa Vince, your beer cooler is empty!!!! Smile

I have a 6mm (.244) remington, very much the same as a .243 except just a bit more speed, as well but I prefer the .25-06 over the 6mm for Deer sized game. The .25-06 is faster and hits a bit harder and is way better at distances over 250 yrds and I've taken Deer out and past 400 yrds with the .25-06 with no problem at all.

I have a Browning A-Bolt in 25/06 with a 24" barrel. I use a healthy dose of Imr 4831 with either the Hornady 117gr. SST or the Speer 120 Grandslam for deer. I chronograhed this load and get 3147fps. for the Hornady slug and 3134fps. for the Speer bullet. I get good brass life and no pressure signs in my rifle, tho others may vary. RL22 looks real good in the 25/06 as for velocity, a bit better than IMR4831, though I haven't tryed it yet. Great deer stoppers.

Both bullets print to same point of aim in my rifle at 100 yds. The .257 Weatherby only beats my 25/06 by maybe 100-150fps., so I'll stay with my A-bolt!

25-06 is a great caliber, the 257 Weatherby does move a little faster but it likes larger amounts of powder. Both are sweet shooters, you really should consider reloading. I find it very relaxing, I tend to tune out everything when I'm at the bench.
