Colt 1911 Gold Cup Trophy 45 Blue

I Have been wanting a Colt 1911 pistol for a while.

I found one at a local gun smith shop.

the own is willing to take My sporterized 30-06 Springfield and a cheap 22 six shooter pistal in for trade, getting the price of this gun down to about $500.00.

every one keeps telling me I am paying for the name "Colt"
I like colt 45 pistols. and I like the fact that the gold cup is more precision cut for accuracy and it has adjustable rear sites.

I figure there is no other group to ask for a opinion than you guys.
let me know your thoughts, good bad and ugly of this Colt 1911 Gold Cup Trophy 45 Blue pistol.

It depends on what the sporterized Springfield is worth and if you really want the Gold Cup. My suggestion is to offer a bit less in cash and go for it. Take care...

$500 is a very fair price for a Gold Cup. I do not see many Gold Cups under $600 around my partsd. They are great guns and will hold their value. The Kimbers and Springfield "custom shop" out of the box guns are now just as good as the Gold Cups. I say go for it you won't be dissapointed.

Ripper, check prices for that online, there seems to be some discrepancy there. As soon as I find my Blue Book I’ll look it up.

If I could buy a Gold Cup for $500, I could probably make $200 on it tomorrow ( assuming the condition is correct )

If you want one and only going to have $500 into it I say buy it.

My opinion on Gold Cups are not what you usually hear though.
I say, over priced and over rated. You definitely pay for the name. ( I just know someone is gonna want to fight now !!! )
In their day they were king, but by today’s standards you can do better.
This is not to say that they are not good. They are.
Good luck !!!

I did so some price checking.

most of the Colt 45's I have seen are going for about $1,200.00.
found a couple for about $900.00 and up.

if you have a blue book and can check the price, that would be very much appreciated.

This colt 45 is brand new with the case, papers and 2 extra mags with a extra spring for target loads.

The sporterized Springfield rifle I have seems to not have allot of value anymore ?? the gun smith was only going to give me about $200.00 for it, but would give me more for it in trade.

I was not real thrilled about the Gold cup. I originally wanted a original colt 45 1911 acp. after doing a little research, it seems like the gold up is a colt 45 cap 1911. just made a little better for better accuracy and performance. please correct me if I am wrong.

The old military Colts bring more money in their original condition than any other Colts.
I’ve seen them from $800-$1200 in various conditions.

The Gold Cups are far better guns designed for competition.
They are based on the military version.

According to my 28th edition Blue book (there is a 29th now) the Gold Cup Trophy National Match MSRP is $1,022.

If you're just looking for a 1911 model .45 Auto for plinking and defense take a look at the Taurus. I got mine for just under $500. Two friends also have them and so far we are all pleased.

Prices for Colt 1911s keep going up. I found a pair of excellent used Springfield 1911A1s for just over $300.00 each. It depends on what you want to spend. All the best...

Hello Ripper007: some of our more pragmatic citizens would choose a basic sedan over an older Corvette 427 due to considerations like gas mileage, maintenance, etc. Good for them. Some would choose the Vette because of what it represents and overlook the little wrinkles of that car's personality, the poor gas mileage, etc. Something clicked and said, "buy me, drive me". Decisions of the head often differ from decisions of the heart.

Were it me, I'd go Colt! Even if it is an 80 series, it is a distinguished model with heritage. That it may be equalled by a Kimber in accuracy, fine. That the Taurus offers more features, fine. Keep in mind, however, that the Colt was massaged by human hands into a credible handgun and that it stands for something other than pragmatic chores. It is an elegant handgun and if it strikes directly at your heart, then go for it and don't look back. IMNSHO

Ripper,

My only thought is after you grade your sporter rifle for this handgun will you have another rifle?

Dimitri, I have a Marlin 30-30 that works very well and I can shoot well with it.

the sporter 30-06 is nice. but I have never really liked it, just for the fact that it has been sporterized. I would like to get a M1-grand, or a Springfield M1A. for a replacement for a 30-06.
I also have a 1943 Mosin Nagant M91/30 Russian 7.62X54r that I just got a week or so ago.
The 30-06 I got when I bought a boat motor for about $350.00, the guy threw in the 30-06 with the boat motor. so I would not realy be taking a loss on it.
at this point, I am just trying to scrounge up the extra cash that I do not have. I am sure I will make due some how.

I Have held Springfield 45's, Kimbers, Taurus, and some others. they are ok, but they just do not mean the same to me as a Colt 45. The history behind the Colts means something.
I still like the way my Beretta 92 9mm. feels and looks. just wished it was more accurate with adjustable sights.

Thanks Handloader, that is how I feel about it. I believe getting a colt is not a mistake.

Ripper,
I have two Taurus PT 1911s, and a Kimber Custom Target II.
All three will shoot better than the Gold Cup.
I agree with Chamber and Pumpkin Man on that.

However, listen to Handloader.
If I had a buy like you have at your fingertips, I would hightail it over to that shop, and make the deal!!!!!

Good luck, and let us know how it shoots.

Eric

I certainly agree that, if you want the Colt because it's a Colt, you should go for it.
