Sad Crying or Very sad Friends,

This is text from a hunting forum I frequent. I know we all over look the hidden dangers of using ladders while filling feeders, hunting, and use of T-post to anchor our feeders legs and blinds.
Be careful out there and have a safe season. Prayer sent for the family of our fallen Law enforcement officer.
See you at the campfire!
Yours truly,
James Howard

He was on a lease in far NorthEast Scurry County, north and east of Snyder, Texas.

From one of his fellow lease members and Garland Cop on another forum
It appears he was fighting wasp's while standing at the top of his ladder to his blind. He fell and landed on a T-post. He called his 15 yr old son on the walkie talkie and told him he needed a helicopter. His son ran about a 1/2 mile to my blind to get help. When we got to Keith, I made his son leave in my truck to go get more help. Some more hunters and ranchers showed up to help me. We got him loaded in the back of a truck, and I told them to head to Snyder to try and meet the ambulance half way, as we are about 35-40 minutes from there. Keith was awake and talking and I assumed he was going to live. I knew his injury was bad, as the T-post had penetrated through and through in his mid-section. About 1/2 way to Snyder, Keith passed away. We performed CPR until the ambulance located us.
If this teaches any of us a lesson please let it be this: 1)If you decide to use T-post to tie down your blind, either cut them off, or put them far away from the ladder 2) tell people you love them before you don't have a chance 3) enjoy every single hunt, minute, second of your life because if might be the last, if it's your time to go.
I truly appreciate the support from everyone on this site, and also please now that huntinglegend4, who had also started another post on this same thing, is the son of another Garland officer, who was sitting a the ranch house with Keith's son, while the news had to be broken to him that his father had passed away.
Again thank you for the oupouring of love and support, ya'll will never know what it means to me...

I am extremely sorry to hear of the loss of one of your fellow hunting buddies mate.

It is a sad day when you have to pass on news such as this. Please pass my condolences to his family.

I'm not sure what a "t" bar is, but it sounds a little like a Star Picket that we have out here for fencing. I agree with what you say about placement of these things, but as an added safety margin, put something over the top of it that will protect anybody that does happen to fall on it. Out here they have purpose designed bright yellow plastic caps that fit very snug on top. In fact it is law that they are fitted on construction sites.

Once again mate...my condolences to his family and friends.

Cheers, Vince

November 25, 2008 - 10:36 p.m.
A 35-year-old Houston man died Tuesday afternoon after falling from his truck onto a stake.

Justice of the peace Henry Welfel pronounced the man dead at 3:49 p.m., said Captain Herb Tucker of the Victoria County Sheriff's Department.

The accident happened on a private deer lease on Farm-to-Market Road 444 off Wilson Road, north of Victoria.

The man's identity was not released Tuesday afternoon because his family had not been notified, the captain said.

The man lost his footing while refilling a deer feeder and fell onto a stake securing the feeder, Tucker said.

The man was last seen around 1 p.m. by others on the deer lease.

Tucker said that an ambulance was sent to the deer lease, but the man was dead by the time the medics arrived.

Welfel pronounced the man dead at the scene and ordered an autopsy.

Adrian Fulton of Victoria Mortuary Service said the autopsy will be today at the Travis County Medical Examiner's office in Austin.
