I have started working on a load for my 25-06 Rem 700. It seems the more I read the more "options" I have. So I have several questions and hope someone here has some insight. The new Nosler book states the most accuarate load for the 2 bullets mentioned is Reloader 19. So the questions begin......
1. Anyone tried Reloader 19/100gr as of yet???
2. What is the best load behind the 2 mentioned bullets?

Thanks for your help guys

Well, I don't use that powder but I can tell you that the BEST load will be slightly different for your rifle than it will be for most others.
That's why we reload, to tune the load for each gun.

Well I pretty much figured that out but wanted a good starting point. The more books you check the more options you have and to be honest its getting pretty confusing about were to start. I have everything figured out but the powder for a starting point. Guess I need to go through the process like everyone else!!!!

I have found quite a few powders that give similar accuracy; H4831sc, RE19, RE22 and RE25. (RE19 gave the slowest velocities in all bullet weights.)
Of all tested, RE25 gave the highest velocity with the lowest pressures (measured by case head expansion), and the best accuracy of .25MOA@200yds. (I will not post this load!, if you would like more info, PM me and I will PM you the details.)

The load I'm using is: Remington brass (flash hole be-burred), Federal 215 primer, RE22 @ 52gr with the Speer 100gr Hot Cor or the Nosler 100gr Ballistic Tip. This load will shoot into .5MOA all day long.

You will need to use a powder that gives the best accuracy in YOUR rifle, the above info is tried and tested in MY rifle, but should give you a solid starting point.
I have found the very slow powders work the best in this cartridge with bullets of 100gr or higher, they seem to be more accurate the harder you drive 'em.
Good luck.
Cheers.
MagnumManiac.

I understand about guns being individuals and the trials and tribulations. Just looking for input from some folks that have been down the road before me.
I am just a bit confused about were to start and was looking for some advice or guidance. Thanks for both guys.

I don't own a crono at this time so my main concern at THIS time is group. Thats not to say in the future there won't be a different priority.

I sprung for some RL19 and going to give it a try. If we cant get along then will figure out whats the next test subject.

Thanks guys.

Before it became commercial I owned a wildcat 25-06 and over the years several more. Its an outstanding round and one I enjoy using for big mulies. Chronographs have become essential for me in developing load data and evaluating those loads. Fortunately, the price for a good basic chronograph is far less than the cost for, even, a modest scope.

The powder of choice for me with 100gr bullets has been Reloader 19 in several of these rifles. It certainly merits some consideration and load development. For my Ruger No1B it has given the best velocity and has always provided an accurate load. H4350sc has been another good powder.

If you flip through the pages of Barnes 4 or any of the recent Nosler manuals you will see a general correlation between load density, powder burn rate and velocity. Often the powder that gives the higher velocities with higher load densities wil be the powder that also is rated "most accurate". While there are always the variables between rifles, it is also the case that there common paths that usually offer a shortcut to the development of the best loads.

As such, the load development process shouldn't take overly long or consume inordinate amounts of components. For the most part, load development for me seldom requires more than five test loads. Perhaps, more important to the getting of game, is practicing frequently and acquisition of shooting proficiency. IMO as always.

I can see a crono coming into my collection of toys soon. I am new to reloading so as we all know its kind of expensive when you get started. Seems there is always something else you need to get the job done right.

My main goal is to get a load that shoots the tightest groups possible out to 300 yrds. Thats how far it is to the back fence were the yotes and deer cross my place. Besides it gives me something to do on those nasty days when I cant get outside and work.

Thanks for all the imput........will let ya'll know the results as they come in. I am sure there will be more questions also.

old thread...good info still relevant.
thinking/leaning towards a speer 100grn hp for varmits/varmints
and something sp in 100grn for bigger stuff....thus no confusion over loads...will keep components the same...probably use AR 2213SC as its available or the hogdgon equivalent...
the 117grn data looks almost ballistically identicle to old school rounded off .270 130grn eg 3" high at hundy and hold dead on to 270 yards.... fun times ahead.
