270

I'm loading (3) 50gr 777 pellets with the 270 grain platinum PB in my Encore, and my wife loads (2) 50 gr 777 pellets with the 245 gr copper aerotip in her Pro-Hunter Encore.

I have to correct my error here. The T/C .50 muzzle loaders have a 1 in 28" twist rate, not 1 in 20". Sorry!

Thats my forum.

Plenty of info to learn off of.

I've read this topic and the other powerbelt topic in the post above.

Accuracy, Not all rifles will shoot them properly, TC,Knight, even CVA will at times not shoot them well.

Why?

A couple reasons,

TC = A lot are put out on the market with misaligned QLA's.
Knight = The bores are slightly over sized and the bullets can not swell enough to seal off the gases in the bore.

Another Overlooked issue could be not the powder thats in the bore, but the PRIMER! Yes, a simple thing such as a primer will indeed affect your accuracy horribly as i am about to show you.

295g Powerbelt Aerotip, 75 grains Pyrodex P, TC Omega, Bushnell Trophy 3x9 scope @ 100 yards off a sand bag. Remington Kleanbore
Finger points to #1 shot on clean bore,

Next up is the same load but with a new Primer. Winchester 777,
3 shots in the center are the ones i am talking about,

3 mores shot with yet Another primer. CCI Magnum Shotshell primer, Fingers point to the 3 shots,

The big hole to the left of my pinky were some 348's i was testing out too.

Aerotip VS Hollow Point is a topic that often pops up. I read a post here that saying that the Aerotip is meant for longer range shooting. Yes and No. The Aerotip was indeed, designed to fly flatter at longer ranges, But the most important part it plays, It Controls Bullet Expansion!

The Hollow Points are fine but they do not shoot as tight for me, Plus they are not recommended for Shoulder shots due to the big hole in the opening that expands to quickly.

Powerbelts are Pure lead which means that if you are hunting with a massive mag 3 pellet charge and run into a 50 yard shot with a 245-295 powerbelt, It is more than likely going to fragment because it was pushed way to fast.

Direct Info from Dan Hall at Powerbelt bullets said these recommended Mag loads with Powerbelts are recommened ONLY if you are shooting 140+ yards away. Not up close and personal!

I hope this has cleared up some questions that often float around.

If anyone needs any help, feel free to send me a PM.

I have the ruger 77\50 and the power belt bullets are great. 2- 50gr trip 7 pellets and a trip 7 209 primer with a 295 gr power belt bullet. in my gun it shoots 3 holes at a lil over 1\2" groups. I haven't had any problem with them coming apart in fact I have 2 of them that I have dug out of elk and they have expanded and held there own. I personally have been impressed with them but have talked to people that say they wont shoot for them. it all depends on your gun and what it likes. get a bunch of different bullets and just try them out and find the one that works for your gun.

I just shot my CVA Electra using Powerbelts (223 gr), could not hit the target at all, two to three feet high. Used a sabot 300 gr a friend had on hand and put them all on the target. I am changing from the Powerbelts. Will try again soon.

Alright I finally got a chance to sight in my Burris on my CVA Optima Elite 50cal. and here's what worked : 130grs. 777 powder pellets
270 gr. Powerbelt Platinum and 209 primers.
I cleaned the barrel after each shot....groups were real tight.
I tried firing 110 grs.777 and the group was just like before, real bad even cleaning the barrel between shots so looks like I'm done waste'n powder and bullets.
Thanks for all the help guys! Cool

I've only used the all lead and found if I try to load too hot, it will strip and get lousy grouping. 90 -110 gns of 777 depending on the gun(barrel).
