Not yet. Be careful if you break more than one light new CFL bulb, you need to evacuate the house and call in a HAZMAT Team. I am the Emergency Management Director for my township and we just received cleanup instructions. Strange because we are being told that the mercury content is nil. All the best...

I tried them and they're not bright enough. I took them all out, threw them in the trash and replaced them with regular bulbs. That's my statement!

Been using them for years.
!0,000 hours life is bullpoo - they last 6-8,000.
I doubt the amount of mercury used is a significant health hazard when compared to all the other stuff floating around in the air we breathe.
What DOES bug me is being told that incandescent bulbs are to be phased out - CFL's are a waste for places where you only need the light on for a short time.

Most bulbs have been replaced with CFL. I find they give a brighter light with less electric draw, the latter unproven as far as bills. But, the quality of the light is more to my liking. In three years we have yet to replace a burned out one. The certainly cost more.
Being required to have them is bothersome. I hope that aspect is reviewed and effectively challenged. Conventional bulbs cost far less and have worked fine for years.
To me, part of the leftist agenda is to require us to do a number of things that are aggrevating, all in the name of environment or safety. Be it seat belts, motorcycle helmets, child restraints, limited magazine capacity, non lead bullets, et al, this perverse thinking is the most blantant example of nazi attitude that we deal with daily.
As an aside, there are diesel autos manufactured by US firms available in Europe and Latin America that can achieve 60mpg, but, banned here in the USofA. Diesel fuel is less worldwide except in the US where we require almost a double refining to promote clean air. As a country we have made choices that have had unintended consequences and, I regret, some may erode much of our economic base. Fuel and food prices soar as a result.

They pretty much suck (just my opinion), and I wont use them until I can't find incandescent bulbs anymore.
And it takes 10 times the energy to produce a CFL bulb than an incandescent. So if the FTH's wanna argue that they are saving the environment by using 'em , they're fulla s--t.

I broke a florecent tube yesterday...Should I call hazmat to come out an clean it up? Never mind...I already did. With my trusty foxtail and dust pan...They have more mercury in them then the CFL bulbs(?) and we never woried about them. They have more of that white powder too...How do you ventilate a basement?
Oh...And Handloader...I have found just the oposite. They give out less light. Blister pack says that a 26 watt CFL gives the same light as a 100 watt incondesent...Nope. Not in my house they don't. I have three in a overhead fan in a small 10' X 10' office and I still have to have a desk light to see what I'm doing...That doesn't sound like a savings to me...

Somewhere on my work computer I have a lighting ROI calculator that includes CFL's. If my memory seves me correctly (kinda doubtful), you will need a CFL (if you are talking strictly about a single lamp) to last somewhere around 18,000 hours before you actually save any money. Most Corporations are switching to energy "efficient" lamps because of the rebates they receive from the lamp manufacturers and the power companies. And so they can pat themselves on the back for doin' such a good job of saving the environment.

I use the "day light CFL bulbs. They have a bright white light and I have only had to replace two in the years that I have been using them. One broke when my 6'4" son walked into it and the other one developed a leak and burnt out. For the same power the daylight bulbs are brighter than the others and they seem to stay bright longer than the "normal" CFLs too.
I am looking into the LED lights - they use less power and last for ten years at a minimum. I just don't know how bright they are.

LED would be the way to go I think but right now the initial cost is so high! Take a look at LEDtronics online, I've used them before as a source for industrial jobs.

I agree with Bushy. I changed every bulb light in my home at once and it was noticeably darker. Darn cave! I always tell my wife that when she leaves on a business trip, I revert to a cave man and the house becomes a cave. So it all fits.
