"As for the election, the USA just like Canada to a lesser degree is a 2 party system you have the Democrats and Republicans, and we have the Liberals and Conservatives."
Actually, disregarding the totally irrelivant party names and histories, we only have Liberals and Wild Liberals. "Liberals" here being defined as those who liberally use other people's money and liberally restrict other people's liberties, all in the name of the common good and the children of course

I was refering to party names, your right the Conservatives are more like Center-wing then right wing, just like the Liberals are really left wing socialists here.

FALPhil, won't that get a dumocrat elected by splitting our vote????? |
At this rate, if you vote for either of the two major parties, you are getting one.
You need to throw off your government education, er, indoctrination and start placing principle over pragmatism. You are still a loser if you vote for someone whose principles you disagree with.
The republicans jettisoned you; it's time for you to jettison them and vote for someone who believes like you do.

Just reading all the political comments on this forum points to one thing; we are all afraid/concerned with this election and the course this nation is taking. There is not enough of us to influence what's going on in Washington.
I've always said the same thing about farmers and ranchers. There are just not enough of us to force a congressman to pay attention to what we want, so we just take what they dish out.
The majority of the people on this forum believe in the America we used to be (mom and apple pie). The socialists in this country, along with the socialist news media are succeeding in this country in brainwashing the sheep people in this country. They start in kindergarten and continue through the college level. The reason I said kindergarten is because teachers are preaching against conservatism and patriotism at this very early age. I blame this on the 1960s hippy generation.
You can't have social degeneration without the collapse of social order. The next thing to follow is disarray in the standards that create a nation- borders, language, and culture. The outcome will eventually be similar as the disorder that collapsed the Roman Empire. The last step to the fall of the Roman Empire was the hordes of foreigners pouring into the country (sound familiar?)
You can’t maintain a culture without orderly assimilation of immigrants.
We can already see our country morphing into something (third world type) that isn't conducive to greatness.
People need to study HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, I’ll relinquish my soap box.
Cary

I don't believe that.
What I do believe is this: we have been propagandized so much by the people who want to stay in power that we erroneously believe that there are not enough of us to influence what is going on in Washington. In a word - we're ignorant.
You can cure ignorance. But curing ignorance is akin to breaking the chains of alcoholism. You have to want to be cured. And the cure starts by realizing that in all the history and prehistory of mankind, no one ever got what they wanted by compromising principles. However, they did get what they deserved because they sacrificed their principles for some perceived (but not actual) incremental benefit.
I get real frustrated with conservatives who vilify Obama because of his potential to be an appeaser. They all point to Neville Chamberlain as an example of what not to be. Then they turn right around and say "I'm going to hold my nose and vote for McCain". They are doing the exact same thing that Chamberlain did when he dealt with Hitler". Appeasement of the left will get you a government of the left.
There are choices. Voting for Bob Barr may indeed split the conservative vote. There are those conservatives out there who will refuse to listen to reason. You can cure ignorance but you can't cure stupid. If the vote is split and we end up with a Democrat-controlled government, that may not be a bad thing in the long run.
I suspect that the current Republican party will end up like the Whig party. No country needs two socialist political parties. That's fine by me. They deserve to implode for shutting us out. Ultimately, conservatism will reassert itself in some new form. That can be a long painful process, by holding your nose and voting for McCain, or it can be a short, painful process by getting out there and working for the election of someone who has real conservative principles.
I am voting for the short process. If you guys choose the long process, you have only yourselves to blame.
You should all read P. J. O'Rourke's Parliament of Whores.
