Mike is right, the war was not fought over slavery, instead it was fought to end the union of states, the Federal Government was above the States that formed the Union from the start of the War on. The "Peace Conference" of 1861 which was supposed to help end hostilities between the states proved that the war was not about slavery as adopting it would have meant that Slavery would have been protected in the Slave States.

You forgot to mention Mike, that Lincoln sat pretty much on the fence about slavery.
History paints him in a good light about this subject, but Lincoln was still a politician, and was forced into signing the Emancipation Proclamation.

My great grand father fought for the Union in the civil war, and I must say if it were fought today I would be a reb and proud of it!!! The war was actually fought over states rights and secession, not slavery. Negroe troops fought on both sides. Slavery was about to end anyway as it had gotten ecenomically unfeasible and the cotton gin was about to make a drastic change in the cotton business. It was a fool war that cost us too much and never should have happened!!

I'm wondering can you post copies of the manufacturer tags from the canteen covers and magazine pouches ??

I'm real interested to know who made them, cause I know quite a number of the bigger player companies that make these modular items for the US military and they are pretty good when it comes to quality wise. So I was wondering if these are a smaller/less well known contractor or not.

Yes alot of stuff is made in China nowadays, but you know most of the "tactical" gear is made right in the States and Canada, which I like.

My new hunting gear is from said "tactical" gear manufactures. Give me a couple of weeks to get what I ordered in and I'll post pictures of my new Vest and back pack. Everything I've bought is ether made in Canada or in the States. Smile
