Hey Keetoowah-what is the problem with the mountain man and the beer and the .44?As long as he was not shooting where he was endangering others-then where's the problem?Your personal opinion of alcohol and firearms?My cousins and I purchased a 40 acre piece on the edge of BLM in the desert just so we could have a drink,shoot,pass wind,place to escape,and tell the rest of society to pissoff,we did'nt need the pc police or the NRA to sell us insurance about what public opinion would be with being free in a free country.Some other people in this country are not so fortunate as to own property and have the access to open land to enjoy themselves-that is why there is national forest,blm land,and wilderness areas,so the public can still enjoy a small amount of personal freedom.

Hey Vince, There are DNR Officers running the range where I go and it's strictly controled. If they did need a hand at that I would be more than happy to help.

TRBLSHTR...I agree wholeheartedly with both Keetoowah and Bushy.

I too enjoy a beer or two at the appropriate time, but like Bushy said....driving and alcohol and shooting and alcohol are not a good mix and as such I never do it.

Isn't that usually followed by "I can prove these shoes are fire-proof"...

or......"that's nothin', WATCH THIS"....closely followed by, "ahhhhhhhh sh1t....owww....ouch....damn....yow !!!"

I didn't get close enough to tell, but from national stats, 20% of LEO rounds launched downrange in a gunfight actually hit the target, so yes, they probably were.

I didn't believe that, but checked with a buddy who is a police officer, and he said yep. That's for all agencies--federal, state and local, even the FBI.

Military is probably different. Maybe not, though, with the "spray and pray" training that is in favor nowadays. And the raw material they have to work with.

Military doesn't practice spray and pray as much as people think. Most M16's only have 3 round burst (and reports from the troops in the field that I've read seem to suggest they mainly use it on "Semi" as thats how they are trained), they got optics (low magnification scopes & red dot sights with no magnification) on almost any firearm thats in service now making their first rounds hit on farther and closer targets.

20something big city kid and his uncle show up at the club range, which unfortunately is open to the public.

Kid opens up a new case loaded with new toys. A tacticool semi-auto rifle and 12ga tactical pump with pistol grip - no stock. Just got them, he says. Starts shooting rifle as if he was providing cover for an infantry platoon.

As I'm thinking time for me to go home, he loads up the shotgun and pumps lead into the ground. duh.

As I'm packing, look up to see him holding the 12ga by the pistol grip with a bent arm - no hand on slide - kinda sighting down the barrel. As I opened my mouth to say "Don't shoot!" - bang - he'd already lost a front tooth.

Nephew and uncle packed up. I stayed.

I've shot in Cowboy Action and falling plate matches with different cops. A few were excellent shots, a few were plumb scary. Guess they aren't all that different than other shooters. As for the 20% hit rate in a gun fight, I hope I can do that well. Gotta figure that there is a teeny bit of stress involved there that might affect your performance.

about the end of the 90s Sydney cops are changing their arsenal from the old revolver to the newer Glocks..

My club is chosen as the host for the learning centre for this changes.. so cops are in and out of the place everyday for months..

you now, we are shooting at 25meters Olympic style Standard pistol and Centre fire and the "black" ring is about 12cm size. Most of the member here would comfortably put in say 5 out of 10 shots in the blacks single handed at 5 shot / 10 seconds rate.

The police is using the IPSC target of human silhouette at the distance of 7 meters shooting with both hand and pumping them out at 10 seconds interval... Would you believe that most of them MISSED the target alltogether ?!?!?

They are worse than our new members and they are the ones that would protect us from the baddies!!! You would expect at least some level of competence shown by the folks who are legally carrying a firearms on their job!!. Some of my police mates are great guys but they are totally hopeless when it comes to use the tool of their trade..

damm thats the first time i heard that, obviously there are good shots, and
bad shots but hearing this kust discusts me. cops are getting payed more that double the pay then an infantry soldier makes and ur telling me i cant depend my life on these buggers preserving peace??????
oh well. i would be so ashamed if i was a cop and couldnt hit a target from that close no matter the size. that is just weird. i can hit a 6' person silhouette with my bow from atleast 40-50 yards atleast 5/10 shots i make and i dont have any sights or anything just a normal 30 lbs bow for fun shooting.
next time i see a cop im gonna ask him how good of a shot he is, maybe i can teach a thing or two. hope i dont sound too....um... whats the word, ah who cares but if u cant hit a big target from close range U SUCK!
