Interested in knowing what loads are the best from you guys,
Have some Hornady factory loads, Just wonder if anyone has done any "wildcat" loads and shot them in a heavy barrel Savage.
Traded the H&R 22-250 for this Beautiful Stainless weapon. Guess I didn't make it clear, The Savage is also a 22-250, Need to know what loads work the best at long distances.
Thanks

I own a Savage 12 not the stainless. I am working on exactly the same thing. My gun is really liking a 60gr Hornady V-max loaded with 39 or 39.5 gr of H414. I am going back to the reloading bench soon for working on this a little more and loading for the 55gr version of the V-max. I will let you know as things progress.

I did some shooting this weekend and found that for sure you should try and work up a Hornady V-Max load. I tried Sierra, Berger, Combined Tech., and a couple of others and NONE shoot anywhere close to the V-Max out of my Savage. Getting close to one hole groups.
Happy New Year!

I have not. I have a hard time finding them here. Where could I get a few? I will load them and see. What grain are you looking to shoot? I think your twist rate is the same as mine at 1 in 11". If that is the case that 75 gr. is a little too heavy try the same bullet a little lighter and I bet you do have better results.

accually its a 1:9.25" twist.. the 75s do just fine for me out to 200 yards no problemo!! the only place i found those grenades were direct from the company, i am going to be getting some later in the new year and trying them out..

Where did you find the twist rate info? I just reviewed the site again and my savage catalog and I was wrong too....1 in 12" is what they both said.

I am an idiot. I have been thinking this whole time you were shooting the model 12 in 22-250. My bad for not paying attention. You have a 243 then and you are correct. Regarding that caliber.....I have a Remington 600 and it absolutely loves the Fail Safe ammo. It shoots about as good a group with the factory ammo in FailSafe as anything I loaded up for it.
