Getting ready to load up some .257 Roberts loads for whitetails here in NC. I have 100gr nosler partitions, 120 grain speers, and 100 grain Hornady interlocks.
I have a new bottle of IMR -4350 Powder, anyone have any good loads using this powderm with the 100 partitions or Hornaday? I have a good load with the 120 grainers.

1- 8 pointer with the Ole Bob this year

Nice to see another Bob shooter. I don't shoot any of those grain bullets in mine but I'm sure someone will be able to help you out with a load. What a great rifle. Good luck to you on your load development.--tr

Yeah I love my BOB. Its a great little gun. I have been shooting factory loads out of it recently (since thats what i had it sighted in with). Haven't reloaded in a few years and decided it was time to work up some new loads for it, especially since the lods i have shot arent available anymore. I do have a good load for teh 120 speer soft point. Just never cooked up a load for the partitions and teh Hornadys. I have always like Hornady bullets for stopping game. Ohh yeah i do have a load for nosler ballistic tips that i shot a few years ago that worked well, but ive never shot a deer with them. Go BOB Go

After trying imr4350 H4350 imr4831 H4831 and imr7828 with 100gr Sierra Pro Hunters I settled on the 7828. It gave me half inch groups at 100 yards. The rifle is an old FN Mauser I bought for my boys to start hunting with, now it's my second goto gun. Good luck with the 257 Roberts, they sure are a pleasure to shoot.

Great cartridge. I built one on a '98 Mauser and bought a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in this caliber. I use IMR4350 and really like it. All the best...

I've had better luck with H414 than 4350. Mine prefers 100 grain Sierras.

If you can find the article written by John Barsness a few years ago in Handloader mag it's got some great loads that take full advantage of the Bob.... Nosler #5 is ok but most all loads in manuals are a hair on the low side. Best plan is to work up....

Please let me know if you work up a good load for your 100 gr Partitions.
Currently I'm getting 1 inch groups with my M77 .257 roberts with 45 gr IMR 4350 behind 100 gr Sierra Pro Hunters.. I would like to try the Partitions and see if I can get a little better than 1"...

Annc, Just substitute the Partitions. 45grs is fairly mild. Just remember what works in somebody else's Bob might not in yours IMR and H4350 are winners for 100grs or less. 45-47 grs normally is good. I wouldn't expect Partitions to beat the Sierra's for accuracy but ya never know.

Daveh, Thanks for the reply..With the Roberts having been factory loaded on the mild side how do you go about judging pressure ? At 45 grs of IMR4350
I have not yet noticed any signs of excessive pressure. As a hand loader how far can one push this caliber ?

The Speer manuals from at least 12 and up (currently 14) list their loads for the 257 Roberts as +P loads. It is a great manual for the Bob because it does have loads that use the (+P) 50000 CUP limits set by SAAMI.

My rifle (Rem 700 Mt.) as yet dosn't like 100gn. bullets. But with 38gn. of H4350 & Nosler 120gn. partitions it puts them on top of each other. Not sure why I'd like to go to 100gn. bullets when it likes the 120's, but, I'm still working on it. The best I've been able to get with 100gn. is about 3" groups.
