It's starting to cool off considerably here in South Dakota, winter is on the way. My reloading gear is out in my cold garage. I'm working on putting a bench together to put in the house. What is the coldest temp that I can reload in before the cold starts to affect the machinery or the reloading components? I could heat the garage before I start each time with a propane heater but I don't like the idea of my gear or components sweating each time as the garage warms up.

Hm, this one is out of my league. It just doesn't get that cold here in the sub tropics where I live.

I reckon wildswalker would be a good one to answer this querie. From memory he seems to have a heap of snow in his pics.

Cheers, Vince

I don't think temperture is really an issue at all. The humidity changes would bother me though. That's why I keep my loading bench in the living room!

The machinery won't have a problem...You might freeze up though.

It is cold winters in Finland. I never keep reloading gears in cold places. Sweatting is bad thing. Geting damp makes metall rusty. After shooting in the cold weather, guns must be in the bag long times, because getting warm very slowly.

Hi
How about making a portable reloading bench ,and this is what I built .
I bought a folding carpenters bench for $10.00 attached a piece of plywood
3/4 " screwed it to the wood base . Now you are ready to mount your reloading press etc. .You can bring it to the range and reload on the spot , or you can fold it for storage and put it in a closet .

Regards
Tooki

Iv'e got the material to make a good bench that will fit in my computer room, I just havn't had a lot of time to get it in the house yet. In a week or so I get my six months off from work, so I'll be able to put it in then. I have a bunch of shells to load so I didn't want to stop now because of the cold weather. Thanks for the suggestion though.

No problem reloading in the cold GUTS.
Like the Pumpkinslinger says, humidity will affect how your powder is dropped, but you should be just fine, as long as the hot coffee holds out for you. Very Happy

Good luck,

Eric

I used to reload in my garage and during the winter I used one of those old ceramic grid propane space heaters. When I got home I lit the heater off. By the time I ate supper and said hello to all it was warm enough in the garage. I just never let it get real warm, it was always cool enough for a jacket and I never had rust problems from sweat, but the humidity in the summer was a whole different subject. Inside and in AC is the ticket.

Bushy, an old fella told me once that a dry red corn cob and purple vitriol would cure any Hemmie. Just in case you need a cure. Very Happy Very Happy
