Paradise can be a place to exist, if you want to limit yourself in that way....

Beyond that, it's a state of mind..........................

I have a CVA Wolf Magnum that I am trying to zero and it is all over the paper! Just when I think it is set it goes wild and I have to start over. I think most of my problem is primers (209 Winchester)are too hot. Any ideas out there to make this workable??? Question

Scoped?

I'd look at all aspects of the mechanics before blaming the load.

Define "all over the paper"...........

2 1/2 x 7 Pine Ridge scope.
All over the paper is a little exteme as I what I get is a flyer that keeps me from consistent accuracy. The flyer is not even consistent and will go anywhere on target. This usually occurs after several shots. Smile

Are you swabing the bore between shots? What sights are you useing? If itrs scoped, check your srews are tight.
It might be a loose screw behind the trigger too. Very Happy

If your scope is all tight and mounted correctly...with no binding on the scope from the mounts...

and you action is mounted in the stock correctly..no loose bolts, ect....

then I would go ahead and try different primers and definately swab between shots.

A bit of advice from me is to only change one thing at a time until you figure out what is going on.

Wild flyers can come from different sources and are hard to nail down.

Scope mounts loose....

Stock bolts loose....

Inconsistant powder charges...

Swivel studs rubbing on bags during recoil....

A different grip on the rifle....

All sorts of things can contribute.

Try a different primer and see if that is the problem, if it's not the cause then try weighing your charges on a powder scale. REMEMBER BP substitutes do not weigh grain for grain with Black. IOW, the equivilant of a 100 grain charge of Black with 777 by volume weighs less on the scale. Thow a charge of your substitute powder from a volume measure onto the scale pan, weight it, then go with that weight for consecutive shots.

If nothing else you try works then look hard at getting rid of that Pine Ridge scope................

I really appreciate all of the adivce I am getting here and will use it!
Yes, wildswalker, you are right in only chnging one aspect at a time!! Otherwise you don't really know what made the difference, or you might change one set of problems for another!!! Very Happy
Is anybody using small rifle primers?? Question

I use the Remington Cleanbore 209's and have had good luck with them . There made just for muzzleloaders.

Have contemplated myself, the conversion kit for my 77/50...from #11's to the 209.

But the #11's have always worked flawlessly for me as long as I take care of a couple minor details....subcatagorized as routine.

When storing my rig loaded (unprimed for sure) it's never stored in a warm building. Always lock it up where it's cold or at the ambient outside temperature.

I always place the hammer down, when not primed, with a thin piece of rubber between the hammer and the nipple....

At all times while loaded, primed or not, the muzzle has been sealed with a layer of 3M electrical tape.....that's for other reasons but also aids in load preservation.

When primed and in hunting mode the #11 is sealed with a dap of nail polish....I've even allowed pink on occassion.

The reasons for the above are to take any step possible to negate any intrusion of moisture into the load.....'cause moisture in a load is the very reason for the development of the 209 system for smoke poles in the first place.

Moisture doesn't come from just rain and snow.....high humidity can kill a load as well, and all that needs is a place to get at the powder.

The steps I take are not a bother and are of second nature to me.....and the rifle goes boom EVERY time.

My scope came under suspicion right away, and is not of danger yet. I will know more after my next bench session! Smile

I have met many folks who share the same sentiment

That's a very interesting way to view it, I thought you were referring to your particular geographical location..........and had named it.

Maybe I missed it, but what are you using for a propellant?
