It is the enjoyment of the hunt and the ethics that count here, not the indvidual differences!! We all have our personal preferences and dislikes, but that does not make right and wrong. |
Thanks for bringin me back to earth with this one, and sorry for hijacking your thread.
HOW we hunt is not nearly as important as THAT we hunt. That we CONTINUE to hunt is dependant on the young'uns.
I tend to get defensive when I think someone is criticizing how WE do things. Many times the "criticism" is perceived, and ,especially with the written word, inferred by myself.
Nuff said about it.

I guess a pair of rifled O/U barrels is outta the question??
Imagine busting off 2 heavy slugs in a row with that thing! |
OUCH Reckon it would let me know that I am alive.
Do slugs out of a rifled barrel recoil more than a slug in a smoothbore, assuming similar loads of course? A 1 ounce slug weighs in at 437.5 grains as opposed to 300 grains for the SST so I suppose that what you gain in one area you loose in the other.

Vince,
With the rifled bore you gain considerable accuracy. With the SST you gain speed and accuracy and not so much recoil as a little more whip and buck, which throws the barrel into the air a bit more. It is not hard to deal with but takes a little getting used to. Just make sure you have a good grip on your weapon!!
joe21, understood!:)

The H@R Ultra Slug Gun I have weighs so much ( about 10 pounds ) It doesn't kick to bad at all with the sst's.

Vince,
It may just be in what you're used to. It seems that from the bench rifled slugs recoil more, although I have no proof. I still don't know if PB will compute shotgun recoil calcs, and if it does, don't know how to compare it to a rifled gun. If you're bustin pigs with your O/U, and your shoulder HAS NOT been reversed, keep shootin the damn things!!
