We had an interesting thunderstorm this afternoon with lots of air to ground lightning stikes.
I looked out the bedroom window to see if we were going to be targeted when I saw movement in the front cow pasture. It was a coyote hunting for a meal in the tall grass.
I had my Savage 12FV 223 in the entry hall by the front door so I picked it up and went out on the front pourch and loaded a round. The coyote was slowly working its way toward me so I cross haired it and squeezed off the round.
The coyote fliped over dead as a stone.
Then I retreated into the house to avoid being a target of opportunity of a bolt of lightning.
This might be the coyote that jumped one of my male cats. The cat survived after a visit to the vet. That's why the rifle was by the front door. There is one by the back door too
There is a healthy population of coyotes around my house but they usually run at night about 3 AM. I think the storm got this coyote up early this afternoon, 6 PM, for a hunt before the storm hit. Big mistake
Yep, this coyote hunting in a thunderstorm is rough stuff
