Must be the gun it's self. Even though CVA recomends them, everybody else with a CVA that I've talked to has problems with accuracy. Like they say, all guns are made different. Your TC's might just have a tighter bore than the CVA's. That's good that they work for your TC's, good shooting.

I know of several people shooting rifles other than T/C that feel Powerbelts are "adequate". Knight Rifle shooters don't seen to like them, neither do Remington ML Rifle shooters (either the model 700 ML or the new Genesis (short for genuine piece of shit) ). However, ML rifles with fairly accurate bore dimensions stuffed with enough powder to force the powerbelts to engage the rifling seem to be fairly accurate.

CVA recommends them because both CVA and Powerbelt are owned by Blackpowder Products Inc.

Hey Popgun, I do use granular American Pioneer powder. I did 5gr increment adjustments with my charge from 80gr to the max 150gr...still no accuracy. They bullets loaded really easy meaning they are too undersized and they wobbled slightly when fired. Therefore, no accuracy.
I agree that the Powerbelts are not the most accurate bullet. Effective? Yes!
The bullet is loose loading and shooting. The standard deviation (or rattle factor) must be in the high 3000's lolololol
But using Powerbelts and getting a 4" group at 100 is not bad out of a muzzleloader. Plenty good enough for deer hunting. My rifle prefers the Hornady XTP 240 gr bullets for real accuracy past 100.
I am sticking to Triple Se7en granular for best accuracy. For quick reloads the 50/50 T7 pellets are just fine.

My buddy and I, both using .50 Powerbelts (295 and 348 grain, haven't ried the 245s) and 777 powder in T/C Encores, can get three shot groups just about 1.5" at 100 yds off the bench. We're both using 100-120 grains of powder, he uses pellets and I use loose powder. The key I found was that they shot best with DRY bores. I've had similar results with sabot loads. Apparently the plastic is pretty slick and any lube in the bore can make it so slick that the skirt or sabot slides in the rifling, not getting stabilized properly. On the other hand lead bullets won't shoot well at all in the 1-in-20" twist of the Encore.

What Pop, you got that good (not that I really think that's good):o Shocked . My CVA .45 wouldn't even do that good. With these Dead Center Sabots and American Pioneer, I'm practicaly one holeing at 50 yards. And clean-up, when I feel like it, is a damp patch and then a patch with a light spray of Remington silicone spray to protect the bore from rust. Cheers

I shot the xtps for quite awhile and they are very accurate. I recently tried the 245 PowerBelts again in my Traditions Pursuit Pro and am getting about 3" groups at 100yds. Rem primers 110 grains of 777 powder. They didn't shoot that well out of my old muzzleloader and I didn't give them a fair test when I started this thread. 3 " groups at 100yds is alright for the distances I'm shooting Very Happy

Hey Joe,

If you have a chance, try the 270 gr. Platinums too.

XTP's are great in my hand cannons for hunting and excellent accuracy. So I would imagine they would work great for ML rifles.

Try an assortment of primers as they can make a huge difference in how the bullet groups. Remington Kleanbore/Winchester777 primers are the most accurate in my Omega with Powerbelts.

Another variable is bullet weight. If your barrel has a slower twist (1/32 - 1/48 etc.) a shorter (lighter) Power Belt might make the difference. The slower twist rates might not be stabilizing them. As I stated before, my 1/22" barrel shoots them like a centerfire cartridge....with Triple7.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to show that PB's CAN be accurate, and share some photos of today's target, 'cause Joe never gets to see any "accuracy" photos... Very Happy

270 gr. Powerbelt Platinum
(3) 50 gr. Triple Seven Pellets
Federal Fusion 209 ML Primers
Three (3) shots fired @ 100 yds from sandbags
No action between shots (shoot-reload-fire)...
