Hello Stan. I live in Finland. Yuo know Sako is from my country. I must to say something. Sako is no more "Sako". It is now miserable expensive Beretta-design 3.class thing. I mean new one Sako 85 modell. If yuo find Sako 75 modell, it is ok-gun. The man in the gun shop was professional. I hope nobody From Finland shall to read this.

Gidday Stan. I would be looking for a rifle that is a bit cheaper than the Steyr or Sako.... unfortunately I think that you are paying a bit of a premium for the name. Not to say that they aren't good rifles, just over priced I think.

The rifle that has taken off with a bang, no pun intended, is the Weatherby Vanguard. Weatherby make a number of models but I believe that the Vanguard offers the best value for money in Australia today.

Well worth having a look at one mate.

Cheers, Vince

Stan,
If you are talking $2,500 that you want to spend or have to spend for a good rifle, then you have some real choices.

Styer is a good gun as are the old Sako guns. I have a HIT, hero in training, at a local gun shop. He swears by his Styer, just loves it. Then on Tuesday I dropped by and he was high on the new Sako tactical rifle, number I do not remember, in 338 Win Mag. I have two older Sako guns, a 244 and a 222, both are good guns.

I sure wish you could get a Montana Rifle Company gun. That would be my very first choice. But as Vince has said the Vanguard is a very good gun also.

I couldn't agree with you more Vince.

Stan, I would suggest maybe a Remington mod. 798. They are an absolute beautiful rifle and reasonably priced too. They come in quite a few different calibers to include, (do I dare say it), 30-06. (I don't like the '06). That way you could spend the money saved for a better scope and maybe even help to pay for a hunting trip.

I have a Tikka T3 which is made by Sako's other factory in Finland. I love it, excellent rifle for the price (payed $735 US for a T3 Light Stainless Left-Hand 30-06 Sprg), which is about half what Sako asks for the 75 Finnlight model that is the same gun. I've been a metalworker and apprenticed as a gunsmith for a little bit and Tikka has real good machining, dead-on accurate. Stock is cheap, with the money you're talking about iyou can have a custom built rig with a McMillan stock that's tailored to you and spend the same or less. Though I live in the US and I can't state what you may be able to get where you live.

What would you say about a Browning A-Bolt Medallion? Beautiful gun, just ofer $1000 US, plenty of options, never heard a bad thing about them. You can spend that extra $1000 on a good Swarovski or Zeiss scope.
