Many years ago, I wanted to get one of these because they appealed to me. For one reason or another I ended up with Remington or Winchester rifles. Last Sunday I was scanning the used gun racks in a local shop and came across a Savage Model 110 in .30-06. The metal and bore were perfect while the stock has a few scuff marks. The shop owner cut a heck of a deal with me and the rifle found a new home. I spent some time cleaning the bore, refinished the stock and put a Bausch & Lomb scope on it. Yesterday at the range she printed small cluster groups with my reloads during the sighting in process. I was pleased and impressed and plan to use this rifle in the deer wood this fall. All the best...

the new ones with the Accutrigger have the BEST trigger available on a new factory rifle. The old ones can benifit from an aftermarket trigger.

The current CEO of Savage is a real honest to God hunter/shooter. He told the engineers to make a safe trigger that was RIGHT. They did.

I have an older Savage 110 in .243Win. that has served me well over the years. The barrel is about worn out now so I'm about ready for a trip to Harts. I'm thinking of putting a .257Roberts barrel on it. I already have a 6mm Rem. so this will just be a small step up in caliber. The rifle was made in the late 70s. In fact most of my really accurate and dependable rifles come from that period, and this one is no exception. Best wishes.

I have owned many a Savage rifle in my day, and in my opinion, for what its worth, I think that Savage has the best out of the box rifle on the market today. They are affordable for the average guy, and they shoot extremely well. I can't wait until Savage starts to maket the new WSSM calibers, I will be among the first to purchase one. Just my two cents worth.

Cal,

Do you know you can put a barrel on the Savage by yourself with about $50 worth of tools.

Umm, the $50 covers the go/no-go headspace gauges and the $15 wrench.

Hello grimel,

I leave the rebarreling to Wally Hart or his son Bob. I get only stainless steel 26" barrels. He does mostly benchrest work, and it shows. My .22-250 with his heavy barrel groups in the .2"s, and his .222Rem. Mag barrel groups in the .3"s (5 at 100yds). There's just no way I can equal his work. Thanks for the suggestion though. Best wishes.

I have a Savage 110 in .270 that has taken more deer than I can recall. It has been been a tack driver since it came out of the box with factory ammo. I installed a Timney trigger about 7 years ago and cut my groups almost in half. Now I'm getting back into hand loading after about 25 years "off". and I'm dreaming about how good that thing will shoot now. IMHO Savage is the best "bang for the buck" out there. (no pun intended) Wink

I also converted a Savage 110 from .270 tp 338-06. Adams&Bennet Barrel bought the tools and presto. New Gun. It's a sub one inch shooter an cost me just under $450.00 from start to finish. My trigger is not to bad. I want a firm trigger for hunting. It gets darn cold in SD. in the winter months, I hunt with gloves on.

I don't have a Savage 110 but do have a Savage 12 with accu-trigger. And i'll attest that mine does perform as advertized. Was very accurate from the git go and no problems at all with the trigger. Though alot of the bench rest shooters replace the triggers with ones with a lighter pull than 1.5 lbs.

Hello Joe,
My Mod.12 is also .223. I was very delighted on how well it shoots. No trouble shooting 1/2'' at 100yds. out of the box with handloads. When the trigger man has a good day it will shoot under .25. Just put on a Mueller 4-16 Tactical a couple of weeks ago. I'm not a bench rest shooter. This is just my P.dog gun with a Harris Bi-pod. I haven't tried alot of other bullets. I've had such good luck with the 55 gr. Hornady V-Max's I haven't found the need to experiment much. Good Luck with yours.
