You might check with H&R, but I think you are out of luck.
The ejector type will only stick at the worst possible time. We have 7 days where we can hunt either sex and on the last day a doe and buck walked out on me at about 50 yards.I shot the buck (looking back, I should have shot the doe), the doe had no idea where I was, I went to reload and the case stuck. By the time I get my rod out of the back pack the doe heard me and was gone. So you might just want to learn to live with the extractor, I hear that it is a lot more positive at removing the case.

ok first of all this lil rifle hates a clean barrel (an omen ) ,lol
every time i clean the barrel it shoots all over the target @ 100 yds. about the 10 or 11th round it goes back to zero ??( figure this one ) i never had a rifle to do this in 40 yrs shooting and reloading for 25 yrs .
so any advice as to whats happening and if there is a cure for this ?? (dirty barrels easy ) ,lol
bumfuzzed in teXas (i think ) ,lol

I have an Ultra in .223, and I have had problems with the remanufactured Black Hills stuff sticking with 5.56 NATO cases. My thoughts on this are the internal diemensions of both cases with the NATO being a bitt smaller and with a full .223 Rem load then the pressures would be alot higher. OF course I have never nor do I plan on using 5.56 NATO in it per the booklet of Instruction, I actually read this one all the way through. I have also had some problems wiht a ploymer cased cartridge called Spectra(?) it stuck too but not mearly as bad as the NATO brass with .223 charges. I would really like to get a .45 Colt barrel for it to go along with my Blackhawk. Maybe some day I will. As a sidenote I really liked the ballistic tip bullets in my .25-06(M77R) somewhere around 85 or 87gr. They did a number on a Wyoming antelope at 75 and 100yds. Was using H414 somewhere in the upper middle range of the load ladder. Dad said it was most amazing wound channel he has ever seen and he has shot deer with just about everything in a shoulder fired platform you could think of, short of a belted magnum, and granted the little things are not very big but still very impressive performance. Oh and yes it was the varmint bullet, should clarify that. THe best part about gettign my Ultra was that it was partly paid for with my work service gift certificate for ten years, $100 to Cabela's. Oh yeah!!

I have a Ultra SB2 223 and have had problems ejecting. Bought it in 2000. The rifle is well balanced and shoots well so I hate to get rid of it. Has anyone had any luck polishing the chamber?

USMC-Mustang. My 243 would stick quite often. I took some Flitz and put is on a 410 cleaning mop, attached the mop to a short section of cleaning rod, then got out my cordless drill and polished the chamber .The cordless drill attached to the cleaning rod really spead up the process. I have heard of others using JB paste, I could not fine any.

Also, if you reload, don't just neck size the brass. I tried that thinking I could get more accuracy. You need to full length size it. With neck sizing, I was spending as much time nocking brass out of the chamber as I was shooting. I am not sure I would have gained any acuracy with the neck sizing, the best group I have shot with the 243 and full length sizing was 7 shots at 100 yards measuring .375

I still get a stuck case now and then, but usually after I have shot 20 or so rounds and not cleaned the chamber.

I hope this helps.

Thanks. I'll definitely try that and post the results. I've found several places online to purchase Flitz but would it be something I can find at Wal Mart or Dicks Sporting goods?

Midway sells it, the stuff is expensive. I had a friend on another forum pick it up for me at a sporting goods store. Wal-Mart does not have it, at least our little one doesn't carry it. Some one suggested valve lapping compound, but I don't know about that. Flitz does not remove that much metal, if any.

I know it is sure annoying to have the brass stick.

The newer guns are extractors instead of ejectors. I prefer the ejectors, since I use mine for hunting. It is a pain to try to remove brass when you have gloves on and are trying to get a quick second shot.

Has anybody ever considered the Mossberg 100ATR? You can get them in .243, .270, .308 and '06. I looked at a .270 that was tagged at $244 at Wal-Mart or you can order it for about $280 and I hear they're quite the tack driver.

I did not see anything about the .500 on their barrel program. I would think that it won't be long until they offer just the barrel. You would have to have the barrel cut down, their barrel is 22"

When I purchased my extra barrels they did not have the 243 Win heavy barrel listed in the barrel program. I asked about it and they said 'sure no problem'. So I wound up with a 243 barrel when I sent my action in for the 22 Hornet barrel. Just because it's not listed don't let that keep you from asking if they can do it. They are famous for not updating the website's barrel program page regularly as new barrels become available. A quick call will tell you if you can get it now or in the near future. Friendly folks there.
I called them once asking about a 26" barrel for the .243, after all they do have a 26" in 25-06 so in stead of machining it all the way to the'06 just simply chamber it for the .243. That would even involve less work. They said no way, they don't do any custom chambering.

Southpaw
I have about 8 of the NEF Handi-rifles from 223 to 45/70. I have had a lot more at different times. I have never found one that would'nt shoot good decent groups. If you take the time to find what bullet and what load the rifle likes you'll find for the money there is nothing out there better than the NEF.
I have a friend who recently passed and he had the NEF in the stainless 22-250. His wife is selling his guns and asked if I would mention this on her behalf. You can buy this nice little rifle for $225.00. Still have to have an ffl from your dealer to ship it. If you are interested let me know and I can send pictures if needed. The rifle is in great shape, has the hammer ext. and the scope rail, and a heavy barrel. He used it for coyotes, and probable shot it 45 to 50 times. Very Happy

Hey Flint, a friend of mine has a .500S&W Handi. He loves the way it shoots. If I was you, I'd leave it just the way it is. The 22" barrel is a good length for that gun. I would also suggest a 2.5-7 Muzzle loader scope. (I hear they have a pretty good belt to them). He hand loads for it and it groups nicely.

I believe Handloader can give you some good load info on it. The lucky dawg got one on loan to test out and play with. Look into getting a Limb-Saver recoil pad for it.

Good shooting and have fun with it.
Darrell

P.S. For $202.00 you can order one at Wal-Mart.
