Here's a link to an article from "Accurate Rifle Magazine", on the 45/70. It's a bit long, but a great read for any 45/70 fan.

I saved it to read later, I'm going to bed. Good night all.

There is a certain contagious big bore illness that has appeal for those so infected. The 45-70 is one of the main carriers of said illness. There are so many options for so many purposes, including the mere enjoyment of sending 500+ grain bullets downrange.

I have two big bore No1s, a 458WM and a 45-70. The latter gets the nod for field work every time and has performed perfectly on bull elk when stuffed with Barnes bullets. Beartooth supplies the cast bullets for this caliber and has a superb selection that allow low level loads for those more frequent "fun" days.

Addendum: Phoenix gets too hot for me to enjoy protracted range sessions, however, Prescott is but a 90 minute drive and about ten to fifteen degrees cooler.

Today's chronographed results, Ruger No1, 45-70, 350gr Hornady:
2.445 fps, 9 fps SD, .85 MOA 8 shots/100 yds

This is a nice load for deer and all purpose fun. Recoil is manageable.
