I have a tri-pod that has served me well for the last 5 years. The stitching in the chair's porous fabric has finally deteriorated and come apart. I'm having trouble finding a business that will sow me a replacement chair seat. Have any of you guys run into this situation and found a solution?

Thanks in advanced.

Around here we have an upholstry shop that will do about anything like that. Call some small local companies and see... I'll bet they are chomping at the bit for work right now.

Your right. I should keep calling. The first one said no, second didn't have the right material. I found the material on-line so I should re-engage.

Yep, agree totally. Any of the upholstery repair places, or even automotive upholstery repair shops could do it...and they would have plenty of different materials from which to choose, and they would love the work right now.

It should not be too difficult to DIY with some good waxed thread and needle, however yes, done by professional would made a better result.

Another solution is perhaps screw in a car seat if there is enough space and if you do not mind to lug heavier weight. This would be a hell lot more comfortable seat.

replace with wooden planks and a removable cushion....canvas/upholstery place would whip up some cushions in a jiffy. advantage of being removable is chair can be outside in rain and place your dry cushion on and you can sit without getting wet...most outdoor stuff takes a while to dry...looks like a spraycan of zinc rich primer wouldnt go amiss on that metalwork....

gelandangan, needle and wax thread is what got me through the last 18 months. I think the shops doing marine work around here are too busy with folks trying to get their boats back on the water. I have a friend who works that industry and they are running short on product in this COVID situation.

Ok, I found the key word. "Awning repair near me" brought up multiple services that do custom work with the material needed for an outdoor seat. I also found a guy that does convertible tops for cars that will do the job. Give me a week or two and I should have the final product.

Mission accomplished. The convertible top shop did a good job. Nice to be comfortable again. The only problem has been, the porous outdoor fabric lets the rain through so you never sit in a puddle of water, but it was letting the mosquitoes bite through from the back.

Looks great mate, (wow, I’m a poet and didn’t know it) and that mesh material will breathe nicely so you won’t sweat on a hot day.

The mozzie problem is easy overcome...just hang an old towel over the back. It won’t stop the backrest from breathing, is available to wipe your hands etc on and it will keep the mozzies off the back. Them creepy little buggers will find another spot to target though, so make sure you use a good quality low scent repellant. I’d still spray your shirt on the back as well...added deterrent.

I’d also consider a soft cushion of some sort under the seat. The seat will sag a bit with use, and those bolt heads look like they will be rather uncomfortable on your butt. The cushion underneath won’t stop the seat from breathing, at least until the sag reaches the cushion, and won’t add any significant weight.

Another thought, and I know this one sounds silly or crazy, but give a thought to an umbrella mount. I’ve known some soldiers to carry a small folding umbrella for use in the rain when they need to write orders etc, and it helps shield light at night when needed. An umbrella when raining will give you some comfort and will also help keep your rifle and scope dry. Do the umbrella up like a ghillie suit to break up outline if that is a concern. A light spray coat of a residual insect spray on the inside will also help keep mozzies at bay.

There are some pretty flash looking tree stand umbrellas available. I didn’t realise they made them.

Get a Thermacell for the skeeters. Used back in NE Ohio during spring turkey season in swampy conditions and rarely was bitten. Also used them for early deer archery season with good luck

I had a Thermacell with me but I didn't hear any skeeters buzzing around so didn't turn it on. Next time!

the aerosol can type surface insecticide works awesomely...it smells a little when first sprayed on but works for weeks if not months...it kills all the little critters who come into contact with it.
we sprayed old hut with it....killed all the beetles in woodwork...no mozzies at all came into hut...single blowfly flew in...did 180 and scooted straight back out. had to leave it to air out for a couple of hours.
