Well...I tried. By The Way...The only thing my horse can't do is climb a tree or a cliff. And he CAN go places that your ATV can't go. National Wilderness. And he still is my ATV. I posted a sign on the back of my trailer "ATV Transporter"...Never tried Horse steaks. Not against trying them though.

Those Big Reds were, and are, real work horses(dont take it the wrong way Bushy).
Bushy, my ATV dont require a vet bill, or my presence every single day, I can leave the darn thing in the barn and go away, or just leave it alone for long periods of time and not worry its gonna starve or break down the fence.......I'll stick with my old mechanical monsters, change the oil and put some gas in her every now and again, she's good to go.

Nope, that was the year I went by myself.

How far in the boon docks did you go with your Big Red 1895?

I went about 8 - 10 miles back into the boon docks and set up camp. The trail gets a lot narrower then in that photo. In most places the trail is just wide enough for the trailers etc. There are very few hills on the way in and the couple there are aren't steep or very high, otherwise the big red might have trouble (traction) with that load. The two trailers and cargo weight about 1500 lbs.

By the way, I went in on Saturday and I called in a nice 5x5 on Tuesday night, about 4 miles from camp, out of my tree stand. Talk about a lot of work getting him to my camp.

COOL! I wish I could afford to go west hunting again, the last time I was 19 years old (21 years ago) with my Father who lived in Arizona for the last 25 years of his life. That was the greatest time I ever had in my life.

Well, whats the rest of the story. So you got the 5x5 to camp. Was it dead or alive. If it was alive, did you tie it up till season starts, or does season start alittle earlier in Canada? Sounds like there's more to this story than you're lettin on.--tr Confused

By Tuesday night I mean 6:45pm. Legal hunting is untill a half hr after sunset which is at 7:10pm so you have until 7:40pm to hunt. The early bulls only season starts the second week of Sept in that area. Yes I shot him out of my tree stand at 40 yards with my 30-06. I gutted him and walked back to camp to get my big red and trailer. Another hunter helped me get him to camp and hang him and skin him otherwise it would have been a lot later then 11pm before I would have got him looked after. I hung him in camp overnite and hauled him out to my truck the next morning and then to the butcher in the nearest town.

Well I'm glad to hear it wasn't last Saturday night. Guess my reading and comprehension sorta sucks anymore. Pretty cool though that you get to hunt elk in September with a rifle. Only got to do that a couple of times, then they changed the season so it basically opened after the elk mostly quit bugling. Never hunted out of a tree stand. You must have a lot of elk around to be able to do that. Sounds like a fun hunt to me. Good luck this coming season.--tr
