Wow, I read Richard's post, the entire thing. Yep, he is right.

this article suggests that NZ will enforce a firearm registration system because the number of firearms is unknown and they believe only a small portion of the firearms have been turned in.

And so it begins...NZ going down the same road Australians have courtesy of extremist Politicians that are in bed with the ANTI firearms proponents. Anything to make a name for themselves.
It is a contentious and controversial subject/attitude, but Governments need to look long and hard at the reason some individuals target “a particular religion/ideology” and what that group have done around the world to cause people to take a stand and in some cases take extreme action. This doesn’t make it acceptable or right because it is often the quiet moderate members of that ideology that are targeted.
Governments must take ownership of a big part of the problem and cause for these actions because of their policies and refusal to listen to their people, especially where immigration is concerned. It is very obvious, by their own admissions, that the aim of many of the immigrants is to ultimately grow a worldwide extreme caliphate, with some in Australia trying to form their own State (Country !!), and become the dominant religion/ideology at the expense of all others.

Why would anyone register their firearms knowing that the registration will be used to confiscate them?
What law did the general population break to cause them to have their weapons taken?
Somebody wants total control over a helpless and disarmed society.
Personally I think it's time for a new government.

govt is paying good $$$ for firearms and firearm parts they deem undisirable......however they are making loud noises about trying to register the rest even though it has failed miserably before and they KNOW it will again.... talk of a $$$ per firearm to register it is concerning.

They managed it here.
The latest move is to force gun owners to pay for their own report from their GP (doctor) saying they think that person's OK to have firearms.
Some "activist" doctors are already refusing to supply these reports on the grounds that no private citizen should have guns.
Wankers.

There was one other man and a woman who were arrested and apparently connected to the attacks... but I haven't heard any more info about them.

You don't have to agree with the buy back, but they don't care, you just have to comply.
The average shooter is a hobbyist, you are put into the position of following the law or loosing everything you own including your freedom. Very few have the financial resources to legally challenge this crap.
Yeah we've all heard the cold dead fingers jingo, and for most that's all it is, noise.
No one of rational thought will knowingly sentence their wife and children to poverty and loose their ability to support their family over a hobby, and that is how draconian these laws are. They will and have hammered people who don't comply with these laws harder than crims who rob or assault or shoot someone.
It really is comply or perish.
The general public is wooed by the elusive safety having no firearms in uncontrolled circulation and are generally clueless. The media is happy to drive the issue for ratings and villify firearm users and firearms for ratings and their ability to manipulate our so called government, this to them is power and they like driving the bus.
The Anti gun lobby loves this crap, their agendas are bearing fruit and they like manipulating the govt as well, and the media come to them for interviews and give these oxygen thieves airtime and credibility in the eyes of the ignorant masses. Profirearm or shooters either get ignored or get ridiculed by all of the above.
Crooks don't give a sh#$, ops normal for them.
Defeatist post? Nup, reality as it is down under, remember we don't have a bill of rights as such, we have a diminishing list of "permissions".
Such is life.
