Have you good folks ever noticed how people not familiar with firearms get it all wrong? The media are about the worst. When they report on someone having a stash of firearms, it often gets reported that they had an "arsenal" when it is more likely an armory. We know that an arsenal is a factory where guns are made and an armory is where guns are stored. Your local National Guard Armory is never called an arsenal because they merely store firearms.

Every semi-automatic firearm may be called an "assault rifle." One media report called a 1911A1 .45 ACP an "assault pistol." What is that? When a shotgun is involved it may be called a .12 gauge or a .20 gauge which is about the bore diameter of a phonograph needle. A scoped deer rifle may be called a "sniper rifle". I guess no one proofreads the copy. Even the sporting magazines seem unable to identify firearms. The editor of a national shooting magazine thanked me for pointing out that their picture of a German Kar98k Mauser was really a Yugoslav Model 48. It goes on and on.

I read a lot of books and some authors are better than others. Tom Clancy gets it right almost all the time and the same is usually true with Clive Cussler. I share books with friends and they laugh when they see where I have made corrections in the text. The most common error is when magazines are called "clips". We know that clips may feed magazines,but magazines feed weapons.

These are just the idle thoughts of an idle fellow. All the best...

But being shot (murdered) by a scoped hunting rifle doesn't sound as good as being shot (murdered) by a sniper rifle.

Mate, one thing I have learned over the years is that the media never let the truth get in the way of a good story. If they can’t sensationalise things, it is useless to them. I wonder how they would report on and classify an English Long Bow...”an Assault Bow”, and a knight’s war horse...an “Assault Horse”? Then of course there is always the agenda of the media outlet owner. The journos have to suck up to the boss if they want to get ahead.

At the end of the day it is damned annoying the way they report things...just to satisfy an agenda, sell papers, or just to get their name in print in a by line.

sheilah at top will be lucky not to loose an eye...as for the bottom photo,not sure where it taken and it what context but SLRs and maybe lee enfields spells some sort of back woods military..the belt buckles caught my eye as they the same....the sling on SLR is in interesting position too.its similar on 2nd rifle in line up....weird full stop.

Interesting choice of rifles in that the firearms are all ex British military pattern (FN SLR and Lee Enfields). The one held by the female looks fairly new, although something doesn’t look quite right with the wood stocks...maybe remanufactured. The belts are Brit pattern with the brass buckles/clips with the Brit style of “male” from the right. The sling placement also looks like a Brit idea, albeit used on a different rifle for ease of carry and quick deployment and retention.
The forage cap on the guy says to me South American militia/guerilla because of the cam pattern, but that doesn’t mean anything these days, they could be from anywhere.
The photo is obviously staged...sights down and all standing close together...and I think the girl is actually protecting her identity by covering her face with the buttstock of her rifle and head down...adds creedence to the idea of them being a guerilla group.

My biggest annoyance is with the media and AR15s, primarily that they are all high capacity, rapid bullet firing weapons. They dont realize (or acknowledge):

There are AR15s with Bolt Action uppers.

There are AR15s with Pump Shotgun uppers.

There is even a AR15 Muzzleloader upper.

Pushing for a ban on a AR15 just because its an AR15... even if its a muzzleloader variant, all the while ignoring the Mini14 or Mini30, its ludicrous.

You cant even have a rational conversation with these people.

They have quit making exceptions. The antigun billionaires are pushing a ban on all semi-auto guns that can use magazines with a capacity higher than 10 rounds. This is being pushed in Washington and Oregon.
As I understand it the Oregon bill will not make it to the ballot. I believe the Washington bill will.
