An air rifle is classified as a firearm in Australia mate, and it's illegal to discharge a firearm in a residential area. That is crazy...CraZy!!!
I live less than 2 blocks from my city hall / police station in the dead center of town... I've had several dogs in my chickens that I caught and tied to a tree and called the police on.
BOTH times, BOTH police officers (different ones, different times) they basically said "dont you have a gun? Why don't you just shoot the dogs." They would much rather deal with a dead dog than a live one they have to transport to animal control. I told them "because I'm within city limits and only a stones throw from the police station".
They both laughed and said, nah, shoot away (carefully of course). There are special ordinances allowing for the protection of farm animals.
We had a nasty wild tomcat I could never trap nor even get close too. He'd sit on the far corner of the back yard near the chickens just waiting for his chance to try and snatch one. Everytime I tried to sneak around the house, or lean out with a gun he'd bolt. One day I was tired of it seeing him sitting there and I carefully cracked the rear sliding door 1" without being seen and poked the 17HMR out and squeezed off a round. Most everyone nearby was in church so no-one really noticed the report. Stuffed that tom in the garbage can and went about my business. Later found out a neighbor 2 houses over was trying to do the same thing, kill that same menacing tomcat.
Couple summers ago I went out after dark to lock in the hens, and found a street-gang of racoons trying to murder a hen. It was a mama trying to teach her kids how to hunt and kill. I got there right as it was all going down. Mama figured out was was going to happen, dropped the hen (still alive) and bolted over the fence. Kids made the mistake of running up an apple tree. I grabbed a Ruger Firehawk pellet rifle I keep next to the door and picked off the hen killers that were scrambling about (killed 4).
LMAO, thats why is so strange to me to hear in other countries where there is such a phobia about guns, the requirements to just own a gun (getting there permission etc) where here my local cops are saying "yea go ahead and shoot, its ok" only few hundred yards from their police station.

I could give it a real good workout around here on Indian Minors etc...if I could get away with it. |
Bloody Hell mate!!!
That's even more draconian than here in the UK (at the moment...).

Yes guys, implemented in 1996 by our then Prime Minister (AKA the Toxic Turd, Jack Boot Johnny and Weasel Guts Howard) in a knee jerk reaction to what was a terrible mass shooting in Tasmania. There are still questions being asked about that shooting because it is strongly considered (with “evidence”) that it was physically impossible for the guy convicted to have perpetrated the killing on his own and with the precision used. Following is just one of the investigations into the validity of Martin Bryant’s ability to carry out the shooting...
This is Joe Vialls's shocking book Deadly Deception at Port Arthur - Scientific Evidence Questions Australia's Port Arthur Massacre (1999) which is a major investigation into the Port Arthur massacre in Tasmania, Australia in 1996. The Port Arthur massacre of 28 April 1996 was a killing spree in which 35 people were killed and 21 wounded, mainly at the historic Port Arthur prison colony, a popular tourist site in south-eastern Tasmania, Australia. The awesome display of combat marksmanship was blamed on intellectually impaired Martin Bryant, who was held in illegal strict solitary confinement for more than 120 days, until he was "ready" to plead guilty. There was no trial. Within a matter of weeks legislation was passed to remove semi-automatic weapons from the Australian population and a gun buy-back proceeded. It is now illegal to own any semi-automatic gun in Australia. Vialls claims that Bryant was wrongly convicted for this crime and did not receive a fair trial. He further claims that the Port Arthur massacre was planned as early 1987 when, after a specially called Premier's meeting in Hobart in December 1987, the New South Wales Labour Premier, Mr. Barry Unsworth stated, "there would be no effective gun control in Australia until there was a massacre in Tasmania". Was this event a psyop - a psychological operation or an event designed to drum up public support for some piece of legislation that would be otherwise be unpopular and probably be defeated? It is commonly known that every totalitarian regime in history was always preceeded by massive gun control laws which left the population helpless against heavily armed government agents. Is it possible that such plans have been laid out for the people of Australia if not of the whole world?
Be aware, your ANTI gun lobby are using the gun laws in Australia, including the primary ANTIs, Philip Alpers (calls himself a Professor even though the only “qualification” he has to justify that title is an honourary degree from a university out here), Rebecca Peters and Samantha Lee of Gun Control Australia (GCA)...all rabid ANTIs who are proven to use lies and false misleading statistics and pure unadulterated BULLSH1T to mislead the public about nasty murderous firearms and the, potentially, murderers who own them. I’ve even seen it where they openly say every firearms owner is a potential murderer and a murder waiting to happen!
I don’t know who pays the bills, but the ANTIs in the US have bought all of these morons to the US in a bid to implement similar gun laws over there, touting lies and false statistics, that we have here.
Be aware of these individuals agendas if and when you hear and see they are visiting the US.
Back to the topic...
I’ve found that, as Aloys mentions, little things like the method of hold, and the method and position of the rifle on a rest (stock, barrel etc) when shooting a springer all play a part in the end result on the target.

I’ve heard for years that the majority of the anti-gun groups are funded, at least in part, by George Soros. Soros has vowed to destroy the US. I still don’t understand why they don’t just take him out....

35 killed and 21 wounded...!!!
There is nothing "precision" about that!
Don't think I take these killings lightly, because I don't. Just think of carnage and fear that would be put in the public if somebody went nuts that actually knew how to use a firearm! Now that would be a real NIGHTMARE!

Anders Breivik in Norway.
Killed 8 with an ANFO IED & 69 more with a Ruger Mini 14 & a Glock pistol & that was where he had specific & restricted numbers of victims to choose from.
It's a bit like the nut in Las Vegas: If he'd been on the lowest accommodation floor of the hotel, his toll would have been far worse.

That nut in Vegas was just that - a nut!
I have offered my services to many police departments, to show them how to handle situations like the Vegas shooting, and to watch some of that footage and the way cops ran like little school girls, to say that it was sad, would be an understatement!
I sent out letters to all law enforcement in the big cities, offering to train their officers and snipers on how to handle these types of situations, and the only response ever received was - I think we can handle any situation that may arise...
Things are going to get worse, and the worse is yet to come! When you are no longer allowed to pray in public, and you're kids cannot mention God or Jesus for fear of the consequences, things are definitely NOT going to get any better!
Just like the last time I took my wife out to dinner, and we always pray before eating. Some "idiot" heard me praying, and told me how stupid I was. I ignored him as best I could, and when my wife excused herself from the table and went to the restroom, this same idiot made a comment about her, and that was his second mistake! I calmly got up from the table, walked over to the guy and asked him to apologize. He said f. u. and that was mistake #3. I grabbed the guy by the throat and commenced to crush his windpipe. When he went to sleep, I helped other people at his at his table lay him down on the floor. I told the waiter he has a seizure and had to sleep it off for a little while...
You DON'T disrespect God!
You DON'T disrespect my wife!
You DON'T cuss in front of women and children!
I am the calmest person you would ever meet, and my wife calls me "super sweet", but sometimes, enough is enough!

the training of our LEOs is debate the world over,Ive said "adopt a cop" here to shut fellas up from bagging thier gun handling skills and got rubbished for suggesting it.....bottom line,if you dont know how to handle guns, you dont know how to handle guns...pretty darn simple really.

Thank you Vince!
You have no idea how bad I wanted to break his jaw!
I have to be diciplined or I would have done much worse than just putting this idiot to sleep. And by the way, according to our waitress, who workes at another place during the day, told me the guy woke up about 45 minutes later, and claimed to have no recollection of what happened...
Common sense prevails!
Last rant! I see more and more people turning away from God, and they blame Him for all the bad in the world, but I am one who cannot and will not do that. I have seen too many miracles in my life, and my business is a testimony to God. I'll explain that later if anyone asks!
Now, I'm taking my wife fishing!

On pellet rifles.
When my mate died last year & left me everything, one of the rifles was a springer .22 & quite interesting.
It's a BSF Bavaria 55 wich is pretty much the precursor to the Weihrauch 85 series as the latter uses the cylinder off the 55 (Weihrauch bought BSF back in the mists of time).
Legal limit for an "off ticket" air rifle here is 12ft/lbs & this one's close, at 11.8ft/lbs going by my Chrony.
It nails rats no bother & when I get a minute, I'm going to attach a Pulsar NV scope to it that I happen to have sitting around.
Adjustable trigger as standard.

That looks so similar to an old air rifle my dad kept in his shed to deal with cats that got into his orchid fern house. It was powerful and accurate, until my younger brother used it as a lever to bend something one day...
After that dad resorted to catching the cats, putting them in a bag, dragging them partially out by the tail, sandpapering their butthole, pouring metholated spirits (denatured alcohol I think you guys call it) over their butt and tipping them out of the bag. I’ve never seen a cat run so fast and howl so loud, and a “treated” cat never came back. Did I mention dad was very protective of his prize orchids?
Mike of Pomgolia...what formulae do you used to work out the foot/pounds pressure mate? Is this the pressure at the muzzle or the power of the pump used to send the pellet?

Vince, I think I would have liked your dad!
My wife decided to back out of our fishing today, because of the heat. Nearly 100 degree weather, very humid and absolutely no wind!
Monday morning though, we will be heading out bright and early. Hopefully I can find a big ole carp for my wife to catch. After that, largemouth bass!

Vince, it has nothing to do with pressure, but all with weight and velocity. Formula for kinetic energy is M V²/2 where M is the weight of the projectile and V its velocity. And depending on the units used you get fpe or Joules. The limit for an airrifle without permit in the UK is 12 pfe (which is about 16 Joules). That same limit is used in FT-matches.
