Interesting question.
We are stuffed while the main stream media are against anything firearm related and politicians watch too many hollywood films and the sheeple believe what they are told.

We are stuffed by the number of UN treaties our government has signed up to that somewhere in the fine print calls for total disarmament of the civilian population.

A total rewrite of our constitution would be a start, however we dont trust any of our current leaders to improve it so it gets left alone.

The police are also a major part of the problem, its always a firearm thats to blame somehow they pick themselves up and shoot everything in sight.
Police also insist on being the only people with rights to self protection and are armed to the teeth.

Short of a major coup, where we hang all the politicians, lawyers and journalists and anti gunners like alpers and start over, we are left with our current methods of quietly chipping away politically

Pete has summed it up perfectly. Unfortunately we don't have a Constitution or Second Amendment that protects our rights the same as you guys in the US. There is also the "she'll be right and will all come out in the wash" attitude of Aussies...basically, as a race, we are complacent and I suppose some will say lazy, which means the Politicians and their dirtbag supporters like the ANTIs etc can pretty much get away with what they want...within reason.

Sometimes I do feel sorry for our ANZAC Brothers - they definitely got the short end of the stick.
Here in Godzown we can get Semi Auto, Lever Action and Pump action, we can get "Assault Rifles " that only take a 7 round Mag unless you get the appropriate license then you can get what you want. I have a max capacity .22 semi auto @ 15 rounds - now in the right hands that could do a hell of a lot of damage.
Sniper style rifles are OK - hey they just took a Blazer .338 Lapua Magnum off one of our worst criminal gangs - it was a bolt action and I'd hazard a guess that the crims had no idea what they had and what it was capable of.
Yep Aussies got a shit deal - another reason not to emigrate - love visiting but I don't want to give up my guns.

I keep hoping to read when I open the newspaper everyday that Philip Alpers, and any other ANTI, has slipped whilst shaving and cut his own throat or tripped in the kitchen with a carving knife in his hand, or maybe just stepped in front of a fast moving express bus.
