YEAP! Come June the Gal and I are having our "Commitment Ceremony."
We are having a pastor perform the service and exchanging vows and rings in a public space to show that we are a committed couple. In other word we are married in the spiritual sense but not the legal sense. And we are OK with that. What everyone else does is on them.
Being a "wid" sometimes things are done a bit differently.
But in case anyone thinks we are trying to pull a "fast one over," we are not.
Jill has spoken with a local attorney on this and we are following his recommendations so that we do NOT violate and rules or laws. So that should cover things here legally.
Just wanted ya' all to know seeing as how a lot of ya' have read my posting from back in my "old life" about Cathy and her fight with vasculitis(sp?) and then having it overcome her and ending her time here. And seeing as how this is the only real website I was a part of back then left now. I thought I would share this with ya' all.
Vince can attest to the truth of this as he has seen pictures on fB. So yeah, SHE IS REAL!!!!! And so is the danged ol' 2500 dollar diamond ring I gave her. HAHAHA! HOLY COW BOYS!!!! It is coming hard and fast. Now I need to get some things built. We are doing a "redneck" type of décor. But Classy like.
As in the past. Thanks everyone for being a part of my "distant" family. I hope to be around more in the near future giving everyone a ration of garbage again.
Later for now.

So, you are having a faith based wedding... so how is that different from a legal marriage?
In Washington if you just represent yourself as a married couple you are legally married. There is no legal difference between a faith based wedding and a legal marriage - unless the papers are not filed with the county, in which case the minister can be fined $250.

EXACTLY!!! We are NOT presenting ourselves as married. We have separate accounts no mutual property, and separate insurance policies and we do not refer to each other as our spouse. Other folks might but WE aren't. And we are not telling folks we are married. We are just having a public show that we are together. And as stated above she has all ready consulted the lawyer to make sure what we are doing is OK so we do not break any laws to come back and bite us in the butt later.
And you are correct we will not be "legally married" in the eyes of the state. All ready talked to the one doing the ceremony about it. We have the rings as symbols of our commitment to each other. Yes NOT unlike a Legal marriage. And truthfully, I do not think the "state" should be recognizing ANY marriage. As I believe it is a "faith" based deal and NOT a "secular" one.
It would be no different than a friend of mine standing up there and asking God's blessing upon our relationship.
This is not all that uncommon in widow/er community.
We have had a lot of questions about this definitely, but once we explained things everyone has been very open to the why's and how's.
