Nice. I wish we had decent pheasant hunting here.

We did have, tlo7mm. About 50 years ago. And in your neck of the woods too. I spent much of my youth just outside of Tigard and never wanted for a Pheasnt or two. Even our family cat would bring in one every once in a while.

We used to have incredible Pheasant hunting in Utah but all the best spots got developed into subdivisions or its locked up by the landowners and they wont let ANYONE on. Its harder to find a pheasant spot on private land than a private land elk hunting spot.

Yes Dallan it is the same here, most of the land is leased by outfitters.
Where we went is on private owned by a nephew, and the public ground is so over hunted by idiots that kill everything they see.

Sadly, Dallan speaks the truth.

I only pheasant hunted once, right after passing hunter safety and getting my first license. My dad lamented the fact that all of the land he hunted as a kid (south central Utah) was either developed or closed to hunting. All the land around where we lived (Northern Utah) was too developed, private land no longer open to the public, or public land that was just too crowded because it was all that was left.

That was the last year he (and I) pheasant hunted. I wish it wasnt' the case, as I think I'd enjoy pheasant hunting.

Azar

I agree, 10 years ago you could get a pheasant with your car, truck. etc in Iowa. Not anymore here as I have not seen a pheasant in 2 years!!

one place I spread fert I had to pick up a cock pheasant and hang onto him while opening gate then chuck him over fence out of way so I didnt run him over..... where guys are releasing and feeding them, there are a few around but the lack of predator control has them doomed for breeding, stoats n ferrets clean em up as fast as they nest.

Growing up, family friends had control of 12,000 acres on the north end of Utah lake, around the AF boat harbor. Pheasant hunting there was indescribable. We had years where our entire group had limited out less than 50 yards from the truck, and only 10 minutes after opening time.

Same family had a 8,000 acre dry farm / wheat field out on the west desert in the Riverbed. We'd sit watering holes during the Dove opener and shoot cases of shells (back when the limit was 30 each). Sadly those days are gone forever.

It's no different out here Dallan...with urban encroachment (money hungry developers) and the mongrel greenies, habitat is quickly disappearing.

Having said that, I have never seen a wild pheasant...they are pretty much non existent out here.

Now, where is Stovey? Is the bugger lost again? I thought he'd be here drooling within seconds...or is that looking for seconds. Laughing
