The best gauge to get would be one made with the reamer used to chamber your rifle...

With production guns that would be very difficult to do. It would easier with a custom gun. Just order an extra few inches of barrel and tell your smith you want a gauge made to equal your chamber. You might have to do the cutaway yourself but hey, it's only time.

Now that IS a good idea.
I'm mulling over the idea of a custom 22-250 & getting a gauge reamed to the chamber size should be a simple thing & not too expensive.

They gauge I have for the .223 has a go-no-go milled into the base and the bore side is max COAL - 2.260" to fit in the magazine. Very helpful
