Well, I've been offline a few days. I was exhausted after work Wednesday night. I had come home around 2:30 AM Wed after visiting Nathan and Tessa. (Tessa is the daughter in the center, between Lisa (left) and Alex.)
I pounded down a couple cans of coca cola and ate a candy bar, which helped at first, and headed home. Well, I was very lucky. Had I veered off to the right when I nodded off at the wheel, my car would have gone over a bank and 15 feet down into a stream. Yep, CRASHED my car 2 miles from home. No head-bobbing or warning, just gone for a second.
Instead of in the stream, I woke up three feet before my car smacked into the corner of a stone retaining wall. The airbags saved me because the seatbelt failed. I buckled it, but it didn't catch. The car is 16 years old, and I guess the spring wasn't strong enough to retract the belt out of the buckle. After the accident, the belt was looped around my left arm. The airbag caught me in the abdomen and lower right ribs. I rode over it and hit the top rear right quarter of my head on the windshield, above and left of the steering wheel, but only just barely hard enough to crack the glass.
Lady Luck must love me. A couple bruised ribs, no broken bones and only a very mild concussion.
Well, it turns out that the reason the caffeine and sugar made me sleepy is that I have DIABETES. How did I find out about the diabetes?
After the accident, I took a couple days off. Just sitting around, I suddenly started having chest pains. Lucky again, this was Sunday morning and my part-time roommate was home. He drove me to the ER. My blood glucose was 743 !!! They couldn't believe it, read it three times with two machines. I was having a HEART-ATTACK but OK after three nitro pills.
So here I am, home 4 days later, with two stents (two arteries to the heart were 95% blocked) and should be back to full capacity within 4 to 6 weeks !!!
I LOVE YOU, LADY LUCK !!!

Well what chinese chicken did you run over?
Glad to read you're on the mend with no permanent damage from the accident. Heart attack eh, glad you caught that early as well.
How do they measure glucose in the US, by that I mean what units are you guys using, here we use mmol/L. Normal range is 3 to 5.8, fasting reading above 13 is type 2 diabeties territory and anything over 21 is see you in hospital now territory. Be sure to manage your diabetes, it can bite you in the bum severely down the track.
Get well.

Haha - Vince, here in the US a fairy is a poof. Getting kissed on the d1(k by a fairy is too gay for me - even if luck is a reward.
Pete - we measure glucose in units mg/dL (milligrams per decaliter ??)
around 100 is normal. Less than 80 or over 400 - call physician immediately. In the hospital the nurse said 743 - but he may have been dyslexic and read 473. Either way, I was screwed.
I was worried much more about the heart than the sugar - at least until after three nitroglycerin tablets had done their job.

Well what more does a guy want Martz, than to get the heart attack overwith. Seems everyone is waiting for theirs. Now that's done you're worries are over. Well soft drinks and candybars sure need to go away. Don't suppose you need more on your plate (so to speak) so it's time to cool-out for a while I guess. Watch some TV and mend, that would give me nightmares having a car accident like that. I bet you can visualize stuff you didn't even see, makes me cringe....Get Well Soon Mart!

The heart attack was WAY scarier than the accident, Suz. I hope you are wrong and that most of us won't go through that.
I was SO lucky - normally my roommate isn't here. He stays 1 1/2 days on weekends. Even then, he is usually out running errands. He was going to leave in about 10 minutes when my attack started!! There was NO CHANCE that I would have made it to the ER in time, had I needed an ambulance. There is a slim chance that a State Trooper would have given me a ride. They are the only ones who can find my house.
When I first moved in, I accidentally pressed the 911 auto-dial button when I plugged in my phone. 3 1/2 hours later, two Troopers knocked on my door.

HAHAHAHA . . . you just CAN'T make this $h!^ up !!!
I called a friend at work and updated him on the events of the last 10 days. When he asked the name of the quack doctor (who never tested my glucose level while I complained of classic diabetes symptoms for 2 years), I told him and he replied, "HEY !!! That's my DAD !! "
Yep, no lie, Sky is the dr.'s son.
I am more and more convinced that we on Earth are a "sitcom" for the Gods! The way my life has been, I will not only get into heaven, but be a celebrity there.

Maaate, what a dose of good and bad luck, funny how one shit situation can turn to gold. Talk about coming up smelling of roses.
Obviously looking at the lighter side of life is helping.
Get well soon and wrap yourself in cotton wool for a while.
