As far as I know, we have no dog in this fight and I'm just hoping we stay out of it!

Beyond Crimea and the Ukraine, Russian influence in other areas of concern such as N. Korea, Iran, Syria and Afghanistan may be affected by any action the west may take.

A couple of hours to go before Putin's deadline. Get a good nights sleep, come morning the world may be a very different place.

The USA actually has a defense agreement with the Ukraine that was signed when the Soviet Union collapsed. The agreement was co-signed by England at the same time. We are treaty bound to protect them from a Russian take-over.

I doubt that we will intervene any more than the countries that signed pacts together helped when Germany invaded in the late 1930s and early 40s.

If we do it might spark a war between the USA, England and Russia and china. That sounds a bit over matched but it would be one way to get manufacturing going in the USA again.

I'm with Pete on this one...a bad feeling. Russia want to re-establish their power in the region...the power they lost when the USSR collapsed.

Hopefully a bit of common sense will prevail and there will be an amicable result.

All of this when the DoD is recommending we downsize our military to pre-WWII levels. Coincidence?????

We didnt go to war and the world ( for us) didnt end when the russians invaded Czechoslovakia, Chechnia or Afghanistan, we wont get into a shooting war this time either. The UN will talk them to death and wring their hands a lot, the EU will whine and shrug, and go have a long lunch, some economic hand slapping may happen and F/all else. Ukraine will be annexed into 2 countries and the Russians will then have to put up with another insergent war, something they proved they arent good at in Chechnya and Afganistan. The poms, French and US will then sell weapons to he insergents and so the merry go round goes round again.

The response after the Russo-Georgian war, was minimal.

I bet this will end the same way.
