So on Boxing day this year I went camping at Morton National Park on the border of Meryla State Forest.

Beautiful place, I camp just a few meters off the edge of the cliff, not too close because the wind is usually blowing a bit strong at night and could be cold

I use my hammock setup and I brought a folding chair LOL.

Well, lucky that I brought the chair, because just after I setup, the sky gone dark.. then it rains.. I mean it pours.. all the ground is quite wet under the tarp

Then it HAILS !!!

Not quite a White Christmas, but pretty good for Oz

And after the night of shivering cold (I only brought my lightweight sleeping bag, it is in the middle of summer in Oz) I woke up to a beautiful sunrise.

Thanks for watching, I hope you all have a great holiday.

Beautiful pictures! Even yours RePete. Thanks for sharing. I think I'm going to get a few days rest now that I fixed the leak in the main water line to the house and wiring harness in the 93 Volvo.

I'm getting tired of resting....

It was too cold to shoot, it's too cold to put up insulation in the shop and garage, and I am ready for a couple of nice days that are at least 40F.

Ok I'm gonna bitch too, got a nasty cough and nasal headache, it hurts to roll my eyes, I feel like a vampire in the sun. Yes the cold weather isn't going away anytime soon. They keep sayin it is.....but it ain't. I can't get warm enough, been goin to bed around 8pm with the electric blanket on full blast, get up at 5:30 to take a pill then back to bed for as long as I can stand it. The house is warm, it's just my body right now all frigged up with some cold goin around, I can't warm up. Have to go to work tomorrow, only a few hours thankfully. I'll spread my good cheer to all the.....no I won't....just a thought.

Geland!!!!! where were we!
Lovely photos Geland, the sunrise with the fog is to die for. Ok so you're sittin under the hammock in the mud, what a great time. Well at least you got away from the hub-bub for a while and back to nature where we all belong anyway. I miss being in landscape like that, where you can see for miles and listen to the quiet. Hope you brought a book and a flashlight, that could have been a long night.

I hope your new year is full of promise and adventure, fun, food and f........................raternity.

Suz

Ya lucky bugger Gelan...I would love to get away at the moment, although the heat up here is getting a bit oppressive at the moment. I love sleeping under a hootchie in the rain...it's so calming and serene. Well I find it is Laughing
Do you use some sort of "mattress" in your hammock mate? I reckon a self inflating Thermarest, or a simple high density foam would make things more comfortable for ya...they insulate you from the cold coming up from under. I always use one regardless of sleeping on the ground or in a stretcher and it makes a tremendous difference to comfort.

RePete...your pics look absolutely magnificent mate...I love the snow. In your first pic, that looks like one monster cat paw print in the foreground...looks great mate. Laughing Laughing

I was underneath the Volvo last night with a North wind and light freezing rain. Hands got too cold to attach the wiring to the back of alternator. Gave up, it can wait until tomorrow ... or the next day.

Gelan, great pics, looks like a pretty nice spot. We've been talking about going kayak camping and I was thinking about using a similar set up.

RePete, those pics make me want a nice cup of coffee!

It is in the middle of summer, and the forecast is 24 - 31 C.
And the area is usually as warm as an oven in summer nights, thus why I camp near the cliff.
All I got is my sleeping bag liner to block the wind, dont usually need sleeping pad on a hammock, in winter I use under quilt instead.
Maybe I wont use hammocks if I go to America in winter LOL..

Brrr.. those snow made me want to drink..

Awesome pics Geland.

Bushy it has been very cold just North of you, last night dipped to -12F, the week before up to Christmas was below zero at night without windchill. I don't ever remember it getting this cold in December.

We had a ice storm the weekend before Christmas here.

There are still those without power up here.

I lost part of the drain gutters of the roof when the tree's limbs in the front yard decided to give way.

Need to get the Power company to cut the tree down as the power line in front of the house was iced over onto one of the limbs. Thankfully it did not go down. Otherwise it would have been a pain.

Tree's diameter is over 12 inches, need either the city to give me a permit to cut it down (aka good luck with that), or need the Power company declare it a hazard and they cut it down (easier).
