The only time we get upset is when Vince lets the beer run low. Or when the ladder to safety from Suz switch is crowded. Usually blocked by Pumpkinslinger. He's old and slow.

This year I plan to hunt around my house because I am having a hard time justifying spending $200.00 for gas going home to Ely.
My area is shotgun only, so I will use either my .44mag Ruger Super Blackhawk pistol or my Marlin 1894 lever action .44mag rifle, which is illegal, but what the heck, why not.
I will be using the same reloads with both guns.
240gr HP/XTP bullets with 22.5gr of H110 powder.
If I don't have a deer down during the one week season around my house, I will spend the gas money and go home to Ely for the second week of season there.
Up there I will hunt with my Marlin 1895 lever action Guide Gun using my reloads which consist of 400gr Speer Flat Point bullets and 50gr IMR 3031 powder.

As you can see, I'm not shy about using brush busting reloads.

Eric, I have that same .44mag Ruger Super Blackhawk. Never fired it though. How bad does it kick with your load? Never shot a 44 mag. Even had a Winchester .44 saddle gun I bought out west for the ranch - never fired that either but sold it as new when I moved here.

Guess I'm a wussy. Most comfortable ( for me ) bore in a 6 shooter is 38 special. Even 357 mag for me is useless. There was a trial in Maryland years back where a guy was shot point blank in the face with a 357 mag. Really urked me. They fired the same gun at the courthouse yard for the jury to determine if it was nec. Thats when I dropped back to the 38.

I have .38 Specials (3 model 10s) and .357 magnums (3. Ruger, S & W and Colt). When I carry a revolver (CCW) it's the S & W Mod 19. 140 grain Remington SJHP over 7.7 grains of W-231.

Nice collection you have there. I am a Ruger fan dating back to 69 when I gave a 10/22 to myself for Xmas. Well, maybe not a fan like you guys who are probably more active then me. The 10/22 has only had 18 rounds put through it since new. With iron sights, it hit anything I tried for so I figured it would last longer if I only used it when needed. I scoped it about 14 years ago. Still waiting for the day to dial it in. My sidekick is a P89 DC in 9mm. Never leave home without it. Bought it new to take on a lion hunting trip as a back-up...where you ask?...well, maybe not in Phoenix but up in the Tonto Nat. Forest. Discovered it shooting to the left x 4" at 27ft while a javalina was charging due to babies following her or him. Fixed that soon as I got back into town!

Haven't experimented yet but how do you post pics here?

Thanks for sharing Bushmaster - are you also a Remington fan?

If I'm force to purchase factory rounds...Yes. Haven't purchased factory ammunition in around 30 years. I reload for all my weapons.

So Bushmaster isn't a Remington connection? I had a Buckmaster in 30-06 is why I asked.

I only have one load for my 357. 19.1 grains of H110 under a 140 JHP.
It gives me good enough trajectory to shoot within one inch of line of sight out to 85 yards. It is the most accurate load I have ever found for my Security-Six and one inch five shot groups are normal at 25 yards.

John, the load that I use for hunting with my Ruger Super Blackhawk isn't too hard on me because with the western grip, it slides up your hand making the recoil bearable. I sure wouldn't want to shoot it all of the time though.
For target practice, I use 240 gr cast bullets and 6.5 gr. of W231 which is very accurate and I can shooting all day.
As far as a grooved barrel shotgun for deer, I sold mine long ago an went with either my .41mag or my .44 mags for deer hunting.
I actually feel good about shooting anything from 75 yards in with my iron sights, so I will avoid going against the law and just take my Super Blackhawk.

Eric

Thanks Paul. I have a Security 6 also. That's the one I went back to 38's with. I'll make a note of your load to try it again. I was using with all just stuff off the shelf. I am beginning to load now so this is all new to me. Do you use that Ruger for 357's only?

Now you have me curious about this western grip you mentioned. I'll do a search to see how that differs from the stock wood grips mine has. Glad I kept it. Almost sold it to help pay some bills when we first got here. Gander Mtn. offered me $100. as is which was still unfired / new in the box 2 years ago. No idea what they sell for today.
