Okay, I admit that but to me the forest is in the Phoenix area, just above. I didn't kill the thing, just bumped a rear hip. He walked away as if nothing happened. Check out the Tonto website. I was just there and saw moose hunts by lottery....HUGE animals! My family moved to Tucson in 71. I only lived there for about 5 years when the economy took a dive. I think our Sante FE in Vail was about the last home sold in that area while all others were in foreclosure or just boarded up. Almost bought in Sierra Vista till we found what we wanted in Vail. I did buy 40 acres out at the Dragoon Ranch just up the road from Tombstone back in 97. That turned into a cash cow for the HOA years later so I jumped ship. I still have the car that hit the moose but no hair left to send you. I do have a wife as a witness though. I was driving but she was there. Can't not recognize moose horns though & size for that matter.

I've used my model 70 .338 mag for deer and elk sense 1973. I gave it to my oldest Son Ben, and he has shot a boat load of deer with it also. All using my reloads. No way it is over gunning a deer. I just know that when I hear Ben shoot, I won't have to follow a blood trail.

Modest? I've never been known to be modest. Occasionally discrete, but not modest.
I don't even do laundry around here. Why would I want to do her doily.

ElyBoy, From what I've been reading all around, this bore gets er done. Still kinda wondering why I put it in the closet years ago and forgot it. I could probably sell 3 other rifles no longer thought to be needed. Reloading is the key though. What distances are norm for your area? and if I can ask, what is the recipe you worked up for it? I am collecting favorites from around to consider what fits the area here on the East coast and only for white tail to start.
Thanks in advance,
John

All close, heavy woods shooting John.
My longest shot has been only 100 yards, and shooting in the woods 100 yards is one long shot.
My best reload is 250 gr Nolser partition round nose with 67gr of IMR 4831 powder.
A tad overkill, but they only bounce once or twice on the ground after you shoot them

This year I plan to hunt around my house because I am having a hard time justifying spending $200.00 for gas going home to Ely.
My area is shotgun only, so I will use either my .44mag Ruger Super Blackhawk pistol or my Marlin 1894 lever action .44mag rifle, which is illegal, but what the heck, why not.
I will be using the same reloads with both guns.
240gr HP/XTP bullets with 22.5gr of H110 powder.
If I don't have a deer down during the one week season around my house, I will spend the gas money and go home to Ely for the second week of season there.
Up there I will hunt with my Marlin 1895 lever action Guide Gun using my reloads which consist of 400gr Speer Flat Point bullets and 50gr IMR 3031 powder.
As you can see, I'm not shy about using brush busting reloads.

Eric, I was pleased to see your .45-70 load. I've found that same load to shoot very well in my 1895 Guide Gun too.
As for the .338 Win Mag on deer... Why not. I wouldn't spend any money on premium or monolithic bullets if it were me. Obviously a "regular" bullet at a moderate velocity would work fine for whitetails.

Whether she whacks you or not we all have a great deal of respect for the lady. We never show disrespect to anyone on the board - we are a family.

Well, far as SuZee goes, I have total respect for her. I believe I am Chicano actually though born in Baltimore, MD. Mother was born/raised in Vera Cruz on a banana plantation. I never met a Native Southwest American that I didn't respect and being Papago as I understand her to be, she's among the best. Mexican bean eater bull or not...is only bull in my book...she knows who she is. She and all of us are what we are and hopefully damn proud in the end. She has a good sense of humor...excellent quality to get through life easier. As I read it, she entered through the 2 swinging doors at Big Nose Kates in Tombstone when she introduced herself to me....that's the door I was referring to. She would understand this since she is AZ born & raised.
God Bless Her
John
