I see the news about the big brush fires in Australia. Hope all of our "Nuts" over there are OK! (I was gong to say something about "roasted Nuts" but that was just too punny...)

Not exactly roasted Nuts, but smoked Nuts might fill better for me.
There are fires about 50 miles west from where I am, the air is currently very smoky and smoggy.
A few mates have evacuated from their properties..
We are not even reach Summer yet.. it is scary to think what might be later on in a few months.
In the past years above average rainfall causes great growth of grass and bush in the fire prone areas.
This year the rainfall slows down and the dried bush and grass become tinder ready to burn.

Before you know it the smoke will have crossed the ditch which will mean us kiwis will have some awesome sunrises and sunsets....no kidding! Aussie bushfires cause us some awesome phenomena.
The big problem for Australians is the fact that bushfires are in the main part natural and a lot of trees and shrubs rely on a burn to actually survive. What the Aussies need to become aware of is that living in the bush in big houses surrounded by bush is that the chances are medium to high that at some point in time the bush will burn....along with everything else in its path, a lot of the trees such as the eucalyptus species (gums) contain LOTS of oils which just adds fuel to the fire. Scary stuff I think most of the boys don't live in the immediate area but hey if you are keep safe.

Luckily I no longer live close to where the fires are burning...but I have spent many weekends in the bush around Lithgow...bush that I think will be nothing but ashes now.
I think Gelan is the closest to the fires, and the chance of them getting to him is pretty much non existent...but the smoke is something else. I don't believe that we have any Nuts in the bushfires affected areas, but if we do...be safe guys, and if they say evacuate, go like buggery...get out.
The biggest problem with these fires is the bush should have been control burned every year or so...but the bloody greenies and The Greens (their political party) won't allow it to be done because it "destroys the environment and kills animals". Doesn't seem to matter to them that, as Radar pointed out, there are a number of species of flora that need fire to germinate. The aborigines looked after the bush for many thousands of years, burning as they saw necessary...the greenies are opposed to this...morons. Burning the bush brings on new growth and produces food for native animals as well as renewing the bush itself, making it stronger.
Maybe one day people will wise up and listen to Mother Nature.

We moved out of the Mountains in March
Nothing more beatiful than living in a National Park
Nothing as scarey as a raging Bushfire
A friend was on Springwood Golf course when the fire started
He rushed home and as he did Police blocked the street
the houses either side of him are gone.
A Firey friend once visited my place and I commented on the trees all he said he could see was fuel

A friend of mine is pretty much the same Tiks...he says as far as trees are concerned the sees only "firewood and potential firewood".
Fingers crossed, they will be getting a few good falls of rain very soon...but unfortunately it will be too late for far too many people who have lost their homes and everything in them.
