Finally got something bigger than a hare with my 7.62x39!!!!!
spotted this sow at about 600 yards and managed to stalk into 125ish before she lay down out of sight.
Got my groove on and into stalk mode I went...down over a creek up the other side...across a rock pile only a few yards from where pig was last seen
up and over till I could look down on her Very Happy yip still there...back....ear...boom!!!!
down she went rolling down the hill.
she was feeding two wee piglets that I scooped up and tucked down my shirt (mates Mrs will hand rear them and put them into sty)
we got pig home and got camera out to show photos of 125grn ballistic tip damage...but sorry guys a pig shot behind the ear twice...NO DAMAGE at all the head fell off neat as when we sliced around neck after singeing it.
photo shows SWMBO getting stuck in helping with the singeing....got to love that crackling Very Happy

Great job elvis. I would love to get me a hog. We don't have them around here. Not many places in Oregon that I know of that you can find hogs. There are some places supposedly but people that know of them don't tell anyone hardly.

yip the smell is......well different.
SWMBO did the heating while I got in the way with a knife doing the scrapping
and yes the wee bolt gun is great to shoot..plastered a hare just before spotting pig so my confidence was high in ability to connect with it. Im happy with those projectiles too, found the green tip as expected in the cavity that was its neck.

Kool kill Elvis. No hogs in my neck of the woods either. That caliber is starting to show up in stores here for something other than the surplus military semi's. From what I have read it is comparable to the 30-30. First time I have seen game taken with it. Good story and good shooting and may this be the first of many snorters that fall to your hunting skills.

Yeah Vince your right again.

By Christmas they will be perfect roasting size, about 10 hours in the oven at 225 stuffed with kraut and sausage, honey mustard glaze. I'm drooling. I wonder how much a plane ride to NZ is?

well..... the 30/30 is better, faster and heavier...but so is the rifle Very Happy
most x39 rounds are 123grain....I load 130 grn .30cal and 150grn aswell.just cause I believe they are better projectiles.
nice propane torch TRBLSHTR....If we had done it ols school over a manuka fire it would have taken about 10 mins vs the hour it took. but lighting an open fire in section in town is a no-no and didnt have time up the hill as mate had place to be.
strange as it sounds the wetter the pig the better the scould/singe, my Uncle did one in the bath years ago Shocked Auntie wasnt very impressed Very Happy
could had done a scould with hot water from tap as its plurry hot from wetback fire if we had a big enough container to dunk pig in outside..never mind jobs done.
no pics of wee pigs...if they survive the first few days they should be fine and I will be able to get some at a later date.

Trbls it's gettin wet alright, from the Astoria airport;

As of 11 am this morning... over 5 inches of rain have fallen on
Astoria Airport this weekend. This rainfall has shattered numerous
September records... remarkable considering that records have been
kept in Astoria since 1890.

We've got almost 2 inches here (so far). I haven't started hunting, might wait till Wed. or Thur. when there's a 60% chance of rain and my boss is off to some other vacation land for the next 2 wks.
