This is how they plan to do it. It happens this Monday.

Made sense..

Amazing technique too, elegant..

The hull cost a lot of money still.
The only thing is why do they took so long to even start?

I think this is a massive project. This ship is twice the size of the Titanic. I also think it took them awhile to figure out how to do. Plus there had to be a lot of stabilization work done. The hull sits on a short shelf. Slide a few meters away from shore and its a quick drop to 400 feet of water.

Just start hauling ping pong balls down and sticking them in the rooms. Get enough of them in there it will displace the water causing the ship to float. Very Happy

114,000 gross tons, 50,000 tons displacement. + the water, silt and sand thats entered her over the last 18 months, thats a LOT of ping pong balls.
I think theyll have a better shot with the method they are attempting.

LOL, when I was living with dad, he got a water front.
We bought a boat, open cabin, and when it rains, it always got swamped and sunk.\
We have to shove old car inner tube in the hull and pump it up.
I guess this cannot be done with a behemoth as the Concordia.

Haha I didn't say it was effective, but in that shallow of water it would work. Myth-busters did a fun episode on it once and they proved it worked. It would take a crazy amount of them though and time to get them in there.

I like the style of your thinking Dallas, yep it'd take a whole lotta ping pong balls, but it'd be fun doing it.
Actually they should use the Italian Parliament - plenty of hot air there I suspect.

If he gets any more sensitive he will be calling parliament real bad names.

Well Bushy, did you find a channel to watch the uprighting on? Looks like they were able to accomplish the feat though it looks like its sitting a bit low in the water.
