update... today we went out to sort the flock. we got all the girls in no bother, I used some blade shears to crutch and belly a few of the ewes and used some rubber rings to dock our lambs. 6 ewes have given us 8 lambs.
we then went up the road to deal to the boys.......
well we set up some netting to guide them into a pen, well actually a old swimming pool with fence around it. we then set about driving the boys into it. they had other ideas...4 times they were nearly there and bolted past us
. then the 4 arapawas jumped right out of the paddock
!!!!! much swearing and cursing on my par
t didnt help the situation or family relations any
, we cut fence and brought them back up road only to have them jump back in
!!!!
so I retied fence moved the car to the jump spot and tried again. found some deer netting and set longer wing to pen..well on the 5th attempt the kids and I got them into the right area and swung the netting around to shut them in...well the big black ram and young one named Kanga cause he likes to jump fences charges into the deer netting. I pounced onto them pinning them both down
. the other 4 just looked on and then walked calmly into the pen!!!! I got the shears out and bellied the ram then put Kanga in a shed to cool off while we dealt to the others. I completely shore one sheep and dagged the others. I then let Kanga out..well the hua went straight out and jumped the fence AGAIN
. we got car and brought him back to beside paddock when the hua JUMPED THE OTHER FENCE
!!! into the neighbors paddock full of 1 year old jersey bulls!!! man I hate jersey bullls, stroppy buggers at the best of times.
off home we went to ring around and find out whos paddock it was. sorted that and back we went.. the weather Kanga was found in amongst these bulls and after a issue with beef coming between me and my mutton I sent a 40 grain subsonic quiet heading dog out to retrieve him
. I quickly jumped into paddock and threw him over fence to SWMBO and said "stand on his head so he doesnt move" I hadnt slit throat as didnt want to agro the bulls up any more..then couldnt get over fence cause of hot wire
... I ran along fence till could get over and finished the job.... Kanga is now hanging in our garage awaiting the meat saw to convert him into chops and roasts tomorrow (lets see him try to jump out of the meat dish
).
what a day.
