Just got a advertisment for a Magnetic Cronograph. Gotta say if it works it sure looks spiffy. I'm tired of blowing the sky screens off mine when they work loose, aligning it between barrel and target etc etc. This looks alot simplier.

Anyone see one in action? How well do they work? Not sure how lead bullets work in a magnetic field but I assume they do somehow.

Wonder how it affects barrel harmonics too...

Yup...Got that this morning too. Wonder if it would read the sound wave (blast) instead of the bullet.

Doesn't look very versitile either. Can't see it attached to any of my handguns except maybe the 6 1/2" Ruger. It definately will not work on my semi-autos.

I guess I'll just have to invest in more sky screen parts.

Hmmm! It would have to effect accuracy and point-of-impact, clamping to the barrel like that. I think I'd wait on some reviews...

Thanks chambered. Most of my chrono work is with hanguns. Don't think it will work for me.

Interesting

As Bushy says it will not work on semi autos. Looks like a great product with rifles and revolvers with longer barrels. The faq from magnetospeed and answers a lot of questions found here ------>> www.magnetospeed.com/p...-questions

Magnetic chronogragh tends to bother me also. The only magnetic bullets are steel core and I doubt that many of us don't have such bullets. Unless I missed something here.

I guess you can set up a near field standing wave, and detect changes to it which would indicate something interferring with it such as a bullet of some form. The website says the unit has different modes for lead or jacketed bullets.

Its interesting, but i'd still like to know how it alters POI of a rifle.

The only real advantage I can see is to prevent dummies (like me) from shooting their chronograph! It would take the worry out of alignment, but I wouldn't trust the firearm to shoot to "zero" with that thing hanging on the end.

The 7mm WSM in the YouTube video Chambered posted seems to be shooting OK at 800 yds, so maybe it doesn't affect the rifle.

It would have to effect the barrel harmonics. If nothing else, dampen them.

The "BOSS" system is just a weight that clamps to your barrel and you can "tune" it (by moving its location) to make your gun shoot better groups and to change the point of impact. The clamping of any weight to the barrel is capable of doing the same thing or making things worse. It all depends on your barrels characteristics.

That sucka won't work on 2 of my rifles, the Timberwolf or the Coyote, because of the brake.

The Timberwolf shown. The Coyote has a similar brake.

Clever idea, since magnetic would not have detected hot gasses.
