Mind you the original page is just as funny ...
www.customs.gov.au/sit...ge4372.asp
They can't even be bothered to capitalize the title ... "firearms and weapons".
Different fonts and sizes used for titles.
Different formats of tables are being used.
Seems like everybody at Customs gets to write whatever they want without following a standard layout or template.

You need permission to import a bolt action rifle with a fixed magazine?
You need permission to import the ammo too?
I thought you guys down under were an advanced society, what happened?

You need to be a FFL to import firearms and ammunition into the US unless it's a C&R.
www.atf.gov/firearms/g...ments.html
Canada has better laws regarding firearm and ammunition then both the US and Australia (if it's not prohibited, and you have a license for it declaration at the border is all that is needed for firearms and up to 5,000 rounds), but export laws from other countries tend to get in the way.

In NZ it depends on the weapon, most tactical B/A should get through I mean you can buy them in shops TRG42s up to .338, AI Chassis in whatever calibre you like, Custom made .50s such as SSR, its the semis that cause all the angst.
Funny thou as I have a group that I shoot with that have a mixture of F Class and Tacticals up to 408? Cheytac and they're hitting 12 inch tins at 1400m. I'd be more worried about them than some idiot with a military calibre semi such as an AR. ( P.S.I don't shoot that range but am slowly building up to 500m with my hunting rifle)
At 1000m most of these guys can pick which eyeball you want them to hit. The other thing is almost none of them are Military trained.
Aussie laws are way different to NZ....very restrictive. I couldn't import 2 of my guns as they're a 12G Pump gun and a semi auto .22 with a 15 shot mag.

in Oz, we NEED permission to import the screw that hold the grip to a pistol.
as long as it is a part of a firearms, we need permission to obtain it.
Any ammunition component, from projectile, to primer, brass and powder are subject to restricted import.

well a few silly people got high on drugs and paranoid and went nutty in the head department and shot a few people before they themselves were shot.
the goodie goodies got all paranoid and jumped up and dpwn and parliment decided we needed to change a few things(sound familiar)
for the most part I believe our gun laws are fairly good
it would be nice to have them a bit looser but on the whole they arent bad.
