With the annual commemoration of ANZAC Day...our greatest battle loss, but a loss that built a nation...coming up on 25 April, I post the following as a tribute to a great unknown Aussie soldier..."Bull" Allen.

A link, titled "Bull" Allen, to a short video is at the bottom of this post.

I write to bring your attention to a new documentary film about the war hero ‘Bull Allen’, of the 2/5th Australian Infantry Battalion, which has been released online via a creative commons license.

The 9 minute documentary film tells how Allen, who grew up in poverty in Ballarat in the 1920s, showed incredible bravery rescuing wounded soldiers as a stretcher bearer in the Middle East and New Guinea during the Second World War.

The film focuses on the events of the 30 July 1943 on Mount Tambu in New Guinea, where Allen walked into enemy gunfire at least 12 times and carried wounded American soldiers out over his shoulders as the bullets flew past. For bravery on that day Allen was awarded the US Silver Star medal.

The film was commissioned by the Ballarat RSL and made by Wind & Sky Productions. Allen's sons and daughter and local amateur historian David Cranage appear in the film as well as military historian Phillip Bradley, whose book ‘Hell’s Battlefield’ features a photo of Allen in action on the front cover. Bull Allen himself died in 1982 and is buried in the Ballarat Cemetery.

The film is freely available online for anyone to watch. To watch the film, share the link, and for more information visit www.windsky.com.au/bull-allen/

The RSL commissioned the film so that Australians would not forget Bull. The overall purpose of sharing the film freely online is to raise awareness in as broad a way as we could manage.

If there is a way you could share the film on your web site or through sharing to your social networks for education and/or for awareness that would be a great outcome.

With kind regards

Well done documentary film, lest we forget the greatest generation the world will ever know. These men fought axis of evil and knew what the face of evil meant to the world, if it were allowed to take hold of power. In all the endeavors to defeat the axis of evil that America has under taken, Australlia has always been there to stand up against evil power. She has been a great ally against the evil axis that have attempted to take the world.

Bull Allen knew that the Good Lord was on his side and put his fate in the hands of the All Mighty. God Bless him!!

Vince, Thanks for the link and the reminder that we are not alone in the world, and our fignt against evil.

Thanks again.

I heard of John Simpson Kirkpatrick, and now I heard of Lesline "Bull" Allen.
