Good choice Stovey, I own three 870's from the late 60's and early 70's including one that was converted to 3" mag using a 3" barrel and 3" extractor. Never had any trouble with these early wingmasters. But my local smith will absolutely not work on any remington shotgun built after 2007!!
If I had to buy another, it would be a mossy.

Omni- the Wingmaster is such a no brainer.
I had a shot at a Field Special 3 years ago. I didnt have my calipers so I couldnt guage the fixed choke and I passed on it. I'm sorry I did it was gone the next day. There are so many classic WM's out there and some are real sweethearts. And that action is like buttuh! I shoot with some lads with some awesome Deulxe WM's and Big Green really cranks out some nice stuff!
The Mossy will make a nice addition to the rack though and beak things up a little. The Russian used to really get the "look" and draw some gawkers, the little Benelli does too and now the lone Crown Grade Mossy on the rack probably will too and as a gun nut it's a lot of fun to shoot the cheese with the old guys over this stuff. I think I'm down to three pumps. Got a line on a used 870 WM for $275 I'm looking into now so...that's a possiblity too. I love deluxe grade Trombones...dunnow why but for me the pump just does it.

My next gun will be a drilling. Just ordered a new Blaser D99 in 20/20-6,5x55 and a Swarovski Z3 4-12x50 BT. This will be the ultimate gun for hunting deer, capricaille and grouse.
Now i just sit home and wait.....

Don't make me cry. I passed up a gorgeous drilling in 16 gauge/ 9.3x74R many years ago. Another of those that got away simply because I didn't (at the time) know what it was!

OK- got it home today...this is "Tank". He's a big one! Should make a fine range mule for clays. Not near as refined as an 870, what is I mean that's the Classic American Pump yardstick, but, it's different, $375.00 and I'll bet the only one at the range.

From the cockpit....gold middle, nice big white Marble up front....trigger is fair I'd say 4-5# and the action dont bind at all and will slick up- spent an hour tying to get that cosmo out of it...yeh, good luck, smells like a Garand . Overall- not bad for the price and it passes the 5 foot test. There was a tiny nick on the reciever at the top and a small hair line scratch on the starbord side of the reciver from a staple in the box that was wadded up in there- it could have been worse and not a deal braker. The streaks are from the wiping rag. This will see a LOT of action and we will put the 500's rep to the test. Feels good mounted, the fore end is generous, swings great and double trap should be a hoot...shuckin' corn and playin' that big trombone, bustin' clays old school.

Yeh- silly noise maker mostly- SG tube pressures are pretty low. But we'll see. any flip reduction is welcome on multiple targets. The barrel weighs a ton! Forgot- the middle gold bead has flats on it for easy tightening too! Neat touch. The pad'll prolly redden up some with use.
It's not a bad looker from a few feet away. It's called the 500 Classic and it's the same gun as the 50th Aniv. w/o the roll marks. It's does have a classic look, and I'll take it!
