Three months till I get in the blind and kill some geese.
"Lord, please let me live that long"

It's great sitting in a blind watching the sun come up with friends and family waiting for that sound! Oh, some hot coffe on hand also helps.

Every time that I make coffee, my son Ben, says that the smell reminds him of us in the Duck Blind before light.

Making good memories that he'll share with his kids one day.

He'll remember my coffee smell long after I'm gone.
Just like I remember Dad's Hoppe's #9 that he used on his guns.
The smell still brings back good memories.

It's now about 5 weeks to the start of Early Goose here...

The dry weather here has the early grains (wheat, oats, and barley) out of the fields, and most of the straw baled and moved. Some of the early soybean fields are already drying up (mostly due to lack of water, not maturity), so anything "brown" next to corn and near water should=good early goose season harvest.

Our early Goose Season starts Sept.1st.
It should be good here. My son and his friend have a bunch of fields lined up for us.
It is nice to have him old enough to do the scouting work now.

Good luck hunting hunterjoe.

Sept 1st is the opener here too. My 16 yr old nephew started driving this year, so he's more than happy to drive the back roads to see what fields they are feeding in.

We have a large population of resident birds around here, and the young ones have now started to fly, which means the family groups are moving out of their nesting areas and into their favorite feeding and roosting areas. All in all, it looks like it's gonna be a good early season here.

Good luck to you and yours, and most of all BE SAFE out there!!

where are my fellow waterfowl hunters?????
nobody to sympathize with me Sad
26 sleeps to go and we got the boat out and tagged our maimai bay today, got a spot of fishing done aswell so that was nice. Ive tried planting oaks on this Island for 8 years now with varing sucess most have died after a promising start but a few have hung in and grown. well today when out there we had a bit of a poke around to see what we could find. the best tree has been growing well for 3 years and is now head high. another was found just 10 yards away that is chest high, how I havent seen it before beats me, and then we really started to look and found another 6 growing healthily all around our spot Very Happy Very Happy it seems some have been hiding in the long grass and didnt die off at all. this year the lake level has stayed high and they have taken off. the only other way they could have got here is to have grown from acorns that we have thrown around to keep the ducks happy. either way they look to be there to stay Very Happy which is good for the future prospects as the ducks will stay around for the acorns and make it home. Very Happy

You have my deepest sympathy my good man Sad
I hope one day to save enough pennies to come over and visit the land of Oz and catch up. If you ever make it over this side of the ditch you WILL get to shoot some ducks mate I will make plurry sure of that.
you look after your heath and keep your eye in busting clays.
