This is for you Suz...enjoy, I did.

May the stars carry your sadness away,
May the flowers fill your heart with beauty,
May hope forever wipe away your tears,
And, above all, may silence make you strong.

Chief Dan George

The Wolf And The Man

Beautiful music.

Cheers, Vince

My pleasure entirely Suz. I think from memory I found something that I hoped is closely related to your heritage.

There are many things about the Native American philosophy that I like...they are (or were) one with the land, they seem more tolerant of others than people today...and they have wonderful beliefs and legends.

Thanks Roadjock...I often go to YouTube and go through these videos...they are very relaxing and thought provoking.

For you Vinnie, some music from my world. The Tohono o' odham people have a very distinctive sound unlike what you usually hear at Native celebrations or dances. Our culture is very organic and we don't adorn in colorful regalias at competition events like so many tribes do. This is a sample of our traditional music and it's very typical. This one is very similar in sound, beat, rhythm and melody. You might not be able to listen the entire thing, it's very long. Keep that tone in your head and now listen to this, which is a modern version of the same music. I love what they've done. It's sort of a Mexican, jazz rendition of the same music. Sort of countrified, Peruvian sounding very similar melody though, to the Native music. Nice fat people huh? They call it Waila music (I think). It's a new thing to me. These guys are very popular and travel a circuit playing their music. It all seems to blend together into one sound and one melody, just like the cultural music it originates from. Not boring though.

Good music Suz...thanks mate.

Watching the dance steps in the "modern" vid...they seem like traditional dances that have been westernised or modernised. The Waila music is ok...but I much prefer the traditional style of native american music.

I see what you mean about them being big people. Is that the natural build of the people or is it courtesy of McDonalds and a "take away" diet? Laughing

Yeah a little shuffle here and there, but they didn't attract too many youngsters. You should see the traditional dance. Here's one not very exciting but it's meant to be outdoors in the dirt, where they can raise some dust. The dust making is actually part of the dance. Very dusty is best for making rain. You'd think that was a myth, but it's really true. You'll notice they don't use drums like the other tribes do, they use mostly gourd rattles and sticks for the rhythms. We are usually very quiet reserved people in ceremony. This is an example of what you find in most tribes, a drum circle. The drum beat is the heart beat of the dancers. The head drummer starts the beating and then starts the very high octave singing, then the others follow him. Pow wows can mesmerise you. Imagine drumming while stoned, it's a natural high along with the dancing that goes on and on and on. Afterwards you're entire body is beating, and even if you've danced all night long, you've been injected with the beat and it won't leave you.

That drum circle is pretty full on, and I see what you mean by the beat staying with you...its awesome. A couple of the guys looked like they had been smoking something other than tobacco through the "peace pipe", but I couldn't see any beats out of place...as you say...mesmerising.
