This is going on just down the road from me and while it may be common where you live, it's a bit unusual here.

Haha Haha Haha

Cool...a Bennett's Wallaby eh...nice little critters. Definitely not dangerous, although if you tried to pick it up, chances are you would find out just how strong those back legs really are.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes them to find and capture it...although a 'yote would make short work of it I would imagine. A wallaby would "lie up" during the day, under a tree somewhere in the shade and they are very hard to spot as they are masters of camouflage...well they pick their hidey hole well. They will feed at dawn and dusk into the night.

I hope that they catch it and the lady takes it in and looks after it, rather than have some redneck decide that he wants to add wallaby to his list of animals culled.

Cheers, Vince

And BigBlue...If you look very closely right behind that wallaby you will note Vince in a half crouch running after it yelling "here kitty, kitty."

Wallaby's sure beat the snot out of some of the other creatures folks have brought into the USA such as Pythons and Boa Constrictors in Florida, and Snake-head fish, zebra mussels, round gobies, and the worst the Asian carp.

At least Wallabies are cute and according to some taste pretty good.

I wonder why they aren't "varmint hunting" the big snakes in FL? Seems like you ought to be able to pick them off with the right rig. I guess the flatness and vegetation would limit visibility in some cases but you could shoot across the water with a bullet that would blow up on impact.

In the news 1/80/10, the Floida "state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission urged hunters to use the cold weather to find the pythons as they are forced to come out of hiding and sun themselves on rocks and open spaces.

The official statement read: "All properly licensed and permitted hunters have the authority, if they wish, to harvest pythons and other reptiles of concern (Indian python, reticulated python, northern and southern African rock python, amethystine or scrub python, green anaconda, and Nile monitor lizard) on Everglades, Francis S. Taylor, Holey Land and Rotenberger WMAs and Big Cypress National Preserve."
"
Doesn't seem to be a problem with killing them here elvis.

Thanks Les!

Elvis, I do recall that but since I was talking about an invasive species, not a native one, I thought I might be forgiven. Here in NC we now can shoot any feral hog at any time, for similar reasons. You have to have a valid hunting license and follow regular hunting laws. I see today that you can now hunt hogs at night with a special permit from NC Wildlife Resources Commission.

We have wallabies hopping around here in the UK too - escapees from a wildlife park & now successfully breeding in the wilds of Derbyshire along with the wild boar, sika deer, mink, nutria & all sorts of other furry furriners.

If it moves ...shoot it!
If it doesn't move shoot it till it does move then shoot it again....!

Especially if its a critter!
