The original question is our opinion on Sierra Gamekings.

He has some on hand and wanted to know if he should use them in a .270. I was a no vote, there were more yes votes.

The ones I tried were hollow points too and it seems the jackets were too thick. I never had deer to run off, never to be found, until I tried those. Once I went back to Powerlokts, it hasn't happened again (although we all know it happens sometimes regardless). But here's the antecdotal evidence of performance on deer known to be hit well using 85 BTHP Gamekings or 80 HP Powerlokts (Not Corelokts...different bullet) in a .243:

Powerlokts = 110-120 deer - 7-8 ran off from spot of hit - lost one

Gamekings = 22 deer - about 16 ran off from spot of hit - lost 5 - gave rest of ammo away

I don't keep written records but I can tell you with the Gamekings, the run-offs recovered ran probably on average 75 to 100 yards. The few run-offs with the Remingtons probably averaged 15 -20 yards.

Like I said before though, they may do better in .270.

Sierra game kings have always worked extremely well in my old .270 Winchester model 70 --- both 130 and 150 grains. They are accurate and I have never lost a white tail. Bullets penetrated all of them. 4831 or 4831sc powder works very well in the .270 caliber.

Now really, have you ever heard a man over the age of consent complain about being chased by women?

Oh yeah, I like Sierra anythings when used for intended purposes. I think they are a great company and still man the phones with live bodies that understand what the customer is talking about.

You should ask Bushy. His sister in law is something to behold!
