I can only imagine that a sawed off 410 full of buckshot load would be a dangerous thing to behold...and then picture is as a 12 gauge. I often wondered how wide that pattern would be but I bet its so wide that even the guy shooting it is in danger. Wink

219, the "rule of thumb" for shot spread from an open choke is 1" of spread for every yard of travel. I've tried shooting my 12 ga Mossberg riot gun at close/across-the-room ranges and I'd say that's about right.

by that theory at 30 yrds your pattern would be 30inches??? thats a good duck pattern!!!! sounds about right but remember the golden rule with shotties is to pattern the plurry thing!!!!
one load will be patchy one super duper tight and another about right. shooting wallabies at 10-30 yrds I seldome managed to put more than 3 balls of #OO in them but shot would pepper them good and #bb was just devestating to behold. dont sell the .410 short with 3/4oz of shot or 5 balls of buck it will kill most things.

Here's the latest: EAA SARPA, turkish made, 20" 20g, 5.3 pounds. $200.00! Took some stoneing to smooth things up, racked it a gajillion times, cleaned, repeat, it's coming around. 3" mag loads are BRUTAL in this thing cuz man it's light. It'll make an awesome jump gun for ducks, rock gun for chukar and a general loaner/travel gun. Boy does it handle fast and there's no vent rib to bust off. Did some home work and it takes Benelli Mobil chokes, neat huh? Trigger is light and snappy too. It's also keeping with my shorter is better policy. And it truly is. Shortest gun in the cabinet now. Taking it out this weekend for a hunt. If I mount it and my Benelli Ultralight back to back there's little comparo, I mean comon ya git waht ya pay for and that Itallian gun mounts and points like butter easy... the wrist, LOP, just overall difference between the two is night and day but- for 200$ I can use it where taking my Benelli would make me cringe. I radiused the butt pad too as it's super tacky and snagged bad, better now. Easiest gun to teardown and service. slide comes off and two piece bolt comes with. Done. Super simple. Alloy reciever and the chamber is extended like a Benelli so the bars are the only thing slidng in the reciever, lots of Benelli copying here for some reason. Going to use it at my trap range too shooting doubles- how fun will that be?

Nope. Barrel work looks pretty good matter of fact, chamber's honed straight and bore is decently smooth. Bluing's a teency bit thin on the mag tube. Bead is straight as an arrow, barrel sets in reciever straight as well. Gotta say it dont look like much but I'm impressed with the design. The slide release is extended and hangs down in front of the trigger gaurd. Super easy to get to, might be a snag so, careful there as one would be with anything getting close to that area like branches. Trigger guard is large enough for a glove. Never had a gun apart and go back together so easy. I can fillet it, including the fire controls, to a bare shell and back together in less than a minute.

I am thinking this year I am going to start looking for a cheap Remington with a Model 700 long action as a base to build a custom .308

I've been wanting a .44 Special Flattop since Ruger came out with them. Why a dedicated .44 sp. and not a Super Blackhawk that will shoot mags or specials, well I like the feel of the smaller frame size. Here's a stock photo of the one I ordered on New Years day.

That's baddass and a great choice! What a killer saddle gun. 44sp aint nothin' to sneeze at either, esp in a Ruger cuz you spice them up a touch over the factory stuff and woof! it's on. Sherrif Wilson did a custom build on a shorty SA .44sp long time back and that got me going good. Great lil gun.

Great choice, I love it.

Well I didnt have a 12g field gun...and my Benelli 20g clays gun project aint totally panning out 100%, I mean it works, looks wicked cool, recoil's been tamed a LOT but...I'm finding out after a case and a half of shells it's a pretty focused hunting tool, duh wtf - the LOP is way too long with a slip-on on it, the shell catcher wire thingy needs constant tweaking, blah blah blah, it beats sitting on my hands but... and it's been several months since I got a new gun so...I need an excuse! Laughing

Was cruising the Gun Genie last night....God is that dangerous and I know that I should stash my wallet in a phone booth fulla tigers before trying that!

Stumbled onto this "trombone". Never knew they made it. "Mossberg 500 Classic". So it's gota be bomb-proof.

Red Pachmayr vented pad w/ white line spacer, hi-gloss walnut w/ fine checkering, gold trigger, deep polished-blue, jeweled bolt, 3" chamber and ported tube- ported tube! 5-chokes, weighs almost 8# (3# more than the Benelli) for......
$375.00.

Shocked

Make a nice addition and a great clays mule. I'll be "shuckin' corn" from 27y soon on the doulbles pad...woohoo!

Aaaand...I got it. Very Happy ....report and pics soon.

Thanks Mac! MY bud's a newby and I steered him into the Mossy 500 Silver Synthetic combo from Big 5 for 199$ a couple weks ago...he'd never shot so I took him along to the trap range cuz he wanted to go and see what all the fun was about. He was smokin' 'em and now he's hooked and can't wait to get his hunt license. And I've always been a fan of the Mossy and boy my eye's got big when I saw this one! The 870 gets all the light but the 500 will do just as well and it's action is much easier to tac-reload, has two extractors and a whole lot more. 870 is no slouch but...gimme a Mossy 500 anyday!
