If I remember correctly, didn't Winchester have to pull some pistol ammo about 10 years? The negative media attention was due to the name being too suggestive of its deadly power? Was it called Talon?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Talon
Did a quick check. It was Black Talon and introduced in 1991.

Good, who cares anymore, we have 80% of the male population in my generation who are now interested in guns and shooting, and yet they are over all alienated by it. Get them interested in guns any way you can, they are not crazy, they play games for fun, and by the time they can legally buy a gun at 18, even the obsessive ones will only consider it a fun game.
So Z-Max, which has a nice hint to it "Zombie-Max", I know "Max" is used a lot in marketing but a stubble hint to Max Brooks who wrote the "Zombie Survival Guide" possibly.
If it taps into the millions of young adults who are into guns cause of video games. Irregardless if there are real zombies, it will fill the ranges with people who want to "upgrade" from game controllers to the real thing as their maturity level increases and they rather shoot the real thing.
Lord knows you might see these targets at your ranges in the near future ....
Remember, they will all buy the evil non-Fudd guns like AR's and they'll be a larger group of people who will in turn support gun rights. Who cares about what the media and the anti's are talking about now? Get as many people interested in the evil guns and with such a large group of potential gun owners to get on our side if you nudge them in the right direction like this might. Why not? Firearm owners and manufacturers trying to make the anti's happy is why we have as many laws and regulations in the first place.

Yes as you said and as the article you listed:

The “Ranger SXT” ammunition sold later by Winchester is very similar to the Black Talon though without the black Lubalox coating on the bullet. Among shooters, a running joke is that SXT stands for “Same eXact Thing" |
Actually its not, its better ... as they changed the design slightly and expands better with the same kind of back taper like the Black Talon. So go media.

Weird, there is even a CDC (center for disease control) Zombie Alert on there, at least they're having fun at our expense.

Its actually good to see that someone, at long last, in the public servant arena has developed a sense of humour.

Not that I am in any way, shape, or form a zombie fan, follower, devotee, accolade, or aficionado.
But, in doing a quick web search it appears a condition like a zombie are possible from the effects of parasites, and chemical toxins as well as a few other things.
Anyway, that is only what can cause zombie like symptoms today, as our planet further degenerates what else might cause a zombie like creature, or who, if like I you believe in God and therefore must believe in Satan.
I seldom think that anyone in a public position has a sense of humor, to have humor one must posses a brain, something basically foreign to government employees. I hope that humor is what this is but I will remain cautious for now and keep my guns ready.

Thing is, people don't prepare for real threats, ie sickness, natural disasters and the like.
Joke at the CDC or not, they've tried everything to make people aware of the dangers of diastase and it hasn't worked. Because who my generation knows of polio, the many forms bacterial meningitis, tetanus, and all of the other sicknesses one had a hard time treating without our more modern antibiotics.
So why not attach a name that will get especially the younger population who for the most part have never seen a empty plate, or any real hardship, to prepare for a bad situation. Even for people my age Zombies are just "fun stuff to shoot at" on video games to waste some time. None of us would actually believe they would come to life. But when you tack on "zombie" you trigger a subconscious response to people who grow up the last 30 years, and then other real situations that might really need preparation will start to make more sense to the video game generation.

You're right D, its a good attention getter and I see it being used more and more often. I see that a group in Charlotte, NC is having a "zombie run" to raise money for a charity. www.sportslinkus.com/z...lenge.html My kids were looking at it and thought it would be a lot of fun. Other groups in other places are having similar events. And I still think its funny!

Ohio is planning for the invasion ...

Quote:: |
More than 225 volunteers in Delaware County north of Columbus signed up to dress as zombies Monday in a drill for officials who would deal with real-life situations involving hazardous materials and disaster response. Emergency responders will test their capabilities as they use standard decontamination procedures to "treat" the zombies and make them "human" again during the exercise at Ohio Wesleyan University. |
Well they are trying to make disaster preparedness fun for both the public and their agencies.

Whether you agree with the Zombie tactic or not, preparedness training and mock disasters are serious business !!!
What appears as a stupid exercise to some has uncovered weaknesses in disaster planning which in turn has lead to changes in protocols that has saved lives.

Chambered,
Exactly, zombies are just as silly but similar principles apply none the less.
