I was coming down off the mountain Wed night with my boy after a successful deer hunt on my ATV. A storm had just rolled through and we were carefully making our way down to the truck when a break in the clouds made for a brief spectacular view. This is one of my most favorite places in the mountains to visit, with the fall colors its just amazing this time of year. I wish I had recorded more but darkness was really coming on quickly. In fact the truck was only 4 miles from here and it was pitch black when we got to it.
We were at around the 8300ft mark here, the highest ridge is around 11,000ft. The trail we were on is the only road allowed as it goes up to some private property. The area across the canyon I'm filming is wilderness area. The trail is really rough, tight and twisty but offers spectacular views. Not a huge number of people really know about it which is even better

Wow that's beautiful. I love this time of year, there are so many things to see and every day brings something new.

Wow, I actually had to go back and listen to this with the volume cranked up.... lol.
It's an artifact of a crappy cell phone mic and a minor rattle in the mechanical fuel guage ... it really doesnt sound like that in person. Its a Honda Foreman, bought it new in '96 and with frequent oil changes, its been an absolute bullet proof tank of a machine. There are much nicer machines available but none can get down into the nasty stuff like this thing can, primarily due to a extremely low center of gravity and low weight.

Yep. The chance of drawing a tag is ridiculously hard though. I *might* have a chance of drawing it in oh... the next 20 years or so. We also have moose there, and I am near the top of the drawing points pool, maybe 7-8 years out for one of those.
My wife on the other hand, has less than 10 people with more draw points than her for Rocky Mountain Goats. She stands a GREAT chance to get her tag in the next few years and she will be hunting that highest, farthest peak when my video starts up. My house is actually at the base of that mountain on the other side.

Wow we don't have colors like that right now, but then Oregon is so full of tree farming. I like those wide open spaces and the only wide open spaces here are the patches where they've done some logging. Pretty high elevation too, very beautiful!

Great view.
If it was over here some greeny in govt would have locked it up by now.
8000 ft eh , the quads a good idea, bugger walking up steep hills at that altitude.
