.257 Roberts. When depriming/resizing, I'm crimping the case shoulder. What should I do to adjust my die?

Welcome to the Forum.

Sounds like the die is not adjusted properly. My suggestion would be to follow the instructions for adjusting the die. What you describe is not normal. All the best...
Gil

Now that's a new one! Are these new dies or have you used them before?

Did you clean the inside of the case neck? Maybe add a little lube.

Have you checked the diameter of the expander ball?

What exactly do you mean by "crimping". Can you post a pic? Using too much case lube will dent case shoulders.

Welcome back spiderdh

Hope this time you give us some feedback for all the answers you got.

Onto your question,
Ackley Improved cases have shoulders that are more steep than standard cases.
You may have a AI case / chamber, and use a standard die to resize.
That could give the "Crimp" effect to the shoulder.

Actually, the case shoulders are "dented".

Too much lube on the shoulders is the only thing it can be then.............. Smile try lubing your cases without getting lube on the shoulders cause you really don't need any there.

I apologize for failing to give feedback before. I'm new to this forum. My bad. I'm using WW cases that haven't been reloaded. I think my die is adjusted right. Maybe too much lube?

spider,
Bushmaster has given you the best advice, if you are using RCBS case lube, wash out your dies with very hot water and an appropriate sized nylon/cotton bore brush/mop. If you're using a spray type lube, brake cleaner or petroleum spirit (Shellite/Lighter fluid) will work well.
You won't need to worry about rusting if the water is hot enough, it will evaporate with the heat of the die, but pulling a clean rag through from the bottom to the top won't hurt.

I normally follow this by lightly oiling the threaded section where the decapping stem screws in, and go back to loading.
I do this after EVERY use of the sizing die, because RCBS case lube is water based it can cause rust after a period of time if left in the die.

You must remember that you only need a very little amount of lube on your cases for it to be effective, too much will always result in dented case shoulders.
Cheers.

Hey Spider....when you say the shoulders are dented...in which direction are they dented? Do the dents run vertically (from base to mouth of the case) or horizontally (around the circumference of the case)?

The reason I ask this is because I have had similar problems with 30.30 cases denting vertically in the shoulder and this was caused by poor setting of the die.

A couple of pics would be great as then we can see the dents in question and be in a better position to advise you.

Cheers, Vince
